Eh, aside from what others have said lower down the thread which I agree with, I used to think like this, but then if your parents or friends do something hard, won't you be proud of them? You didn't do it but you can still be proud of their achievement despite contributing nothing. So I think that maybe pride in your tribe, be it nationality, football team, whatever is just an extension of that. It depends on the "achievement" though.

@onepict they do: until recently saving data in the US from Europe was a data protection issue - our DPO would not let us use services from US. Now there is some treaty that allows us to force the US company to exercise the same protective that we have, or something.

Another reason to adopt this attitude is that you can avoid having to do anything about it. It's a form of doomerism.

As long as it's also descriptive. I saw someone with # altTextIsAnArtForm in their bio, and their alt texts were just jokes which relied on you already being able to see the image. I felt bad for anyone who actually needed them.

How about a Wikipedia page as a starting point to list available instances that are currently being ignored at joinmastodon? Something anyone can edit, it could include instructions to sign up.

I did not rate Berlitz at all. Their certifications bare no relation to the standard A1/A2/B... levels so you can't really use them for official stuff, and the teacher seemed to be under a lot of pressure to advertise Berlitz to us in the lessons, maybe to get us to take the next course? We did not.

Yeah you can't arrange anything without consensus of at least the majority of people, but you're always going to have to deal with some idiots. I think anarchism allows for that, iirc?

That's lying not being mistaken. Sometimes there's an overlap between being morally and factually wrong, but they're not dependent on one another.

I'd say traditionally what with 16 hours work days, war, disease and the rest of it, one didn't have the time to do anything but work and sleep. Life was quite "exciting" enough for the majority. Boredom is positive.
Also, I think most people haven't explored everywhere in their immediate surroundings without having to get on a plane.
