It was exceedingly difficult to get four hours blocked out from meeting conflicts for two months straight so that this mandated activity would have my undivided attention.
In what world would anyone conceive that sending a reschedule notification to a different weekday and time into already scheduled meetings' times would be acceptable?
In what world would anyone conceive doing so four minutes prior to the scheduled start would be a good look?
Pleasantly surprised to hear Nominee #Harris specifically mention and enumerate support for the citizens of #Gaza at her #DNC speech. Also very pleasantly surprised to see her ASL translator (but sadly only hers) translating the lyrics to the music that are being played rather than just signing "Music" or just swaying in time.
@notroot@darnell@badtux That's the great thing about the #Fediverse - one application or another may not work well for you but another just might, and all those applications that work well for different people can all work together to let people who thrive in different applications thrive separately, together.
It's pretty darn cool how #Mastodon has built-in translation for posts in other languages. I barely speak a word of French but just had a nice interchange thanks at least in large part to that feature. Never could have done that on the birdsite without popping open a translation service window.
@Rasp Beyond missing the point, it seems unfathomably uncouth too. Just as socially outlandish as approaching anyone and asking "what is your birth gender?" would be. Outside of, say, an endocrinologist's office (and I will freely admit ignorance as to whether it would be justified even there) I can't comprehend how it out to be anyone's business other than one's own.
Anyone who asks such things can be trusted: to be the jerkbag ey has just demonstrated emself to be.
@ryanhoulihan After I did some light lexohistoorical reading, any time anyone plays this card around me ey will thenceforth only be addressed as 'thou', since 'you' is a plural form of address and using it in a singular context is obviously incorrect after all.
@ryanhoulihan For the first question, would you accept "Yes, if they want to"? I'd hate to force anyone to play a sport in which ey had no interest. (:
Back to the Future: One of the few filmic takes on the genre that does a reasonably good job of being self-consistent with respect to causality, while still having nods to stepping on butterflies (e. g. Twin Pines Mall→Lone Pine Mall).
Primer has an obligatory place on this list.
Red Dwarf has, for all that it's a sitcom first and SF second, some excellent takes on time travel sprinkled throughout its run.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, once you get past all the farcical bits, has some excellent "this is a time travel story" beats. "Remember to set this Deus ex Machina up later on so that we get out of this tight spot we're in right now."
Arrival has a great closed information temporal loop.
Babylon Five has some really good long-form temporal hijinks.
@Natasha_Jay "I set up an account, saw nothing on my Home feed because I never Followed anyone or any tags, assumed it was a ghost town, and left" is probably an all-too-common story.
But I don't know what the solution is other than maybe making the Local feed the default, but that has its own problems.
@Natasha_Jay Depending on the size, population, and followership of your instance, the Global/Verse feed might be an intimidatingly firehose-like torrent which some might find to be a turn-off too. But I really like that on the 'Verse your feed is what you make it, not what some zillionaire or eir chosen algorithm makes it.
@hypolite I actually do, provided that the new traversal methods are more interesting than "walk fast" (as they are in AV). I certainly can understand how it would be a minus rather than a plus to some though.
