For anyone who thinks the #Fediverse is quiet, I get about 300-400 posts per hour in my Home 🏠 timeline at peak times, and that's *after* filters and some separate focus Lists I use ...
My goodness, folk here are chatty and interesting! Trans stuff, techie stuff, politics, boosts, gaming, cat pics, cyberpunk, street art, selfies - all sorts of fascination tbh
Some people just don't know what it *can* be like here?! 💜 ❤️ 💜

To take this a step further, I have a secondary on #CalcKey I've been using to trial it. The full search facility is incredibly helpful in finding posts and people. And even more so for new folk who won't necessarily know the hashtags imho
Plus for power users, Calckey 'antennas' offer huge power to create multiple timelines based on people and/or search word combinations
I plan a migration in the not so distant future ...

@DopeGhoti @Natasha_Jay Indeed. I very deliberately ventured into this on Hard Mode by setting up my tiny little instance, so finding things to follow is much harder, but relays and things certainly helped with that. I also have accounts elsewhere I can find stuff in the local timelines of those big instances.

Four months ago I rationalised a lot ... unfollowed, reduced boosts by a few, Lists, Filters etc
Since then I've maybe only followed +50 more people and a couple of hashtags. Yet here we are - Home timeline is exploding again (in a good way ofc)

Depending on the size, population, and followership of your instance, the Global/Verse feed might be an intimidatingly firehose-like torrent which some might find to be a turn-off too. But I really like that on the 'Verse your feed is what you make it, not what some zillionaire or eir chosen algorithm makes it.

"I set up an account, saw nothing on my Home feed because I never Followed anyone or any tags, assumed it was a ghost town, and left" is probably an all-too-common story.
But I don't know what the solution is other than maybe making the Local feed the default, but that has its own problems.
