Beyond missing the point, it seems unfathomably uncouth too. Just as socially outlandish as approaching anyone and asking "what is your birth gender?" would be. Outside of, say, an endocrinologist's office (and I will freely admit ignorance as to whether it would be justified even there) I can't comprehend how it out to be anyone's business other than one's own.
