@blaaablaaaa @Hoss I think it was @mangeurdenuage who articulated this best to me. the kind of harm that can come out of something like the tiktok skinner box or the alexa speaker is a very abstract form of harm. understanding the nefarious things that people can do with that requires a ton of mental overhead. the alexa speaker isn't directly stabbing you in the face or anything.
when we try to frame the conversation as "CCP/NSA is collecting your data" the normies don't get it because they are permanently three steps behind. they still can't grasp why it could even be harmful in the first place. most of them still don't even know why simple commercials are bad beyond a surface level understanding that they interrupt an entertainment program. -

@griffith @sun sony's attempt at censoring soneium didn't even work. a few hours after sun came on here and started whining, someone actually used force include via L1 to bypass the censorship attempt. the meme coin that sony doesn't like is stuck on their network forever and they can never get rid of it.

sony deliberately chose a kit for creating their network that has a rule that says "if at any time you don't like this network's gay and retarded rules, you can obey the rules of ethereum L1 instead." you could publish an NFT called "kenichiro yoshida has sex with dogs" and sony would never have final say. if sony really wanted to run an absolute monarchy over their chain, they shouldn't have built it as an ethereum L2. they could have built it with older technology instead. sony wants to have their cake and eat it too. -

@sun @icedquinn @moth_ball I don't think the delay in removing funds from an optimistic rollup is a big deal that actually affects normal people. in real life, most ethereum users can just use a single rollup. moving money directly off of a rollup is not something that normal people should have to do. if a person needs to migrate funds from one rollup to another this can be done instantly using swaps, and good wallet software should be able to abstract it so the user doesn't need to know it's happening. -

@moth_ball @sun it is hard to make it so that a blockchain can have a lot of people using it at the same time. some bitcoin developers back in 2017 wanted to do bitcoin transactions outside of the bitcoin blockchain using something called payment channels. they were going to build a secondary bitcoin network based off of payment channel architecture and it's called the lightning network.
there were people who said "no, don't do that, it's retarded and it won't work for reasons x, y, z." those people were right, but a lot of devs who are considered important in the bitcoin space have still not decided that lightning doesn't work and they are still trying to make lightning work 8 years later. a few ethereum devs were about to make something similar to lightning that was called raiden, but they gave up very quickly and later switched to making a different thing that works much better. -

@prettygood @rosey they gave me morphine twice. all it did was make me stop screaming for a couple minutes and want to throw up, and I could faintly hear a purple dinosaur off in the distance singing "I love you, you love me." but when they gave me dilaudid it was so good that someone could have called me on my phone to let me know my house burned down, and I would have said it was fine I'll just get another one. my roommate was there with me trying to read dune and I told him the only thing that would make this better is if I was on a nude beach.
