@icedquinn >game developer ethos has an industry wide problem of being pretty overworked and ineffective. even in the face of overwhelming evidence that running employees below 100% utilization is actually better for everyone (even the shareholders.) What's incredibly ironic is one of the big companies pushing against crunch culture is Amazon
@icedquinn This is a localizer/voice director that hired a white guy to voice a woman in an Aztec-based setting, and he couldn't keep a consistent accent, nor could he emote because he'd sound too masculine. She also broke FF14 hiring West End theater actors in favor of hiding Californian professional VA nobodies so she could network build. The previous voice director managed to land Jonathan Bailey before he made it big on Bridgerton. She's a fucking idiot.

Encyclopædia Autistica (Order Now!)I'm running a conjuration mage of sorts in Pathfinder that has a raven familiar, and the setup I was planning on running would have the familiar inhabit whatever he summons, and he would draw two cards from the setting's version of a tarot deck, and the results would alter the appearance and capabilities of the summon. Problem: standard Harrow decks with Pathfinder's art are $30, and while I could get some on Etsy, I figured I could find a site that would print self-designed decks for you and send them to you and gen pictures I wanted with AI. I found one, and a deck of 54 self-designed tarot cards would cost $27.
Problem 2: Across from me at the table is a Bluesky addict that's constantly bitching about AI and how it's an existential threat to artists and has a hairtrigger temper. I know if I showed up with self-genned cards rather than something professionally commissioned (which I could EASILY see costing $10,000 given current market rates for full-color, fully detailed art pieces) or something mass-produced, he'd lose his mind and it'd be even more drama at the game session, and at this point, it's on a razor's edge as it is. So there goes that idea. I guess I'll just find some app to draw me the results instead.
@dushman@radmin@phnt@foxcat And if your average GNOME dev knew my worldview, they may or may not try to beat me half to death with a skateboard, but they'd definitely condone it. I don't get what everyone's so up in arms about.
@phnt Idiots like that have absolutely nothing to offer society beyond rage and handwringing and deserve to be mocked and disregarded at every opportunity
@sun@Griffith@deprecated_ii When I worked at Jimmy John's, the managers made sub-minimum wage because they were on salary and expected to put in 50-60 hour weeks, including 2 am inventory or truck unloadings. Some situations, you don't want to get promoted.
@sun If the Democrats were smart they'd already have the ads made up, but they're not so they'll just make ads decrying the lack of HRT dispensers in public schools and some tearjerking shit about how the slave labor being sent home is literally starving America
@bronze@nobullyplz@toiletpaper The world's a complex place and way smaller than when we started qualifying people. At this point it's been 30 years since mass worldwide immigration began to really hit the US, and our view of what people are really hasn't been brought up to date.
Even Central Asia is a complete mess. You have Kazakhs that look typically "Asian" to the north of Tajiks that are very white-presenting. Kazakhstan likes to tether itself to Europe geopolitically while Tajikistan is undoubtedly in Asia. That's not even getting into if a Kalmyk moved here, is he Asian because he's of Mongolian heritage, or European because his family's been west of the Urals and north of the Caucusus for 300+ years? Why do we consider someone from Argentina, a borderline first world country that's considered Hispanic, less privileged than a Georgian, who comes from a dirt poor husk of a country full of what we would call white people?
I don't have a good answer for how to fix it but the status quo isn't working.
@nobullyplz@toiletpaper Demographic screenings in this country are a joke. Someone from Kandahar has to put down "White, non-Hispanic" while someone from Barcelona can put "White, Hispanic" if they want the edge in those questionnaires. It's still stuck in 1880.
