    @feld I never actually understood, if you don't trust Twitter, how do you prevent Twitter from just intercepting your URL/QRCode and then mitm'ing your messages because the thing you're provided doesn't tell you in any way who you're contacting or how to verify it

    this guy I follow on farcaster who I do think is very smart, nevertheless frequently publishes crypto whitepapers that are just buzzword word salad clearly (to me) written by ChatGPT.

    The papers go into great lengths to explain the benefits of DIDs to blockchain, but never detail which DIDs, which is important because they all have different properties; and functionally you could use your wallet address instead of a DID identity and you wouldn't need this separate abstraction at all. I have read the entire paper of AI goop and it never actually explains WHY you need DIDs to do anything.

    @j @tyler I tried to find out more about this years ago. Here's what I found:

    1. I can't find any historic description of the star of remphan, like what it looked like or how many points it had.
    2. the star of david didn't start getting used as a jewish symbol extensively until the 12th century AD
    3. I have found reference to an eight pointed star called star of remphan but this seems to be a red herring.
    4. rempha is also a name for Saturn and you can find "star of saturn" and it's a star of david six pointed star. but this appears to be a much later occult thing, I can find no antiquity description of the star of saturn.

    my conclusion was "probably no" but there's no way of knowing, it might be.

    @icedquinn @adiz @david yeah so my position is that this obviously isn't directly about efficiency it's about getting rid of people that will just obstruct them. a sub-function of that is, ending programs that advance the cause of their ideological enemies. another reasonable sub-function would be what you are talking about, they are possibly trying to find the real seat of power

But the reason I dispute it is because left wingers never disavow their extremists but right wingers always do to try to gain acceptance. well, until very recently, trump is leveraging their playbook beat for beat, I'm surprised people haven't caught on yet.
