@sun @apropos I pre-spend a nonzero amount of energy on storing away patience for when people act this way about insight I have developed into my own health and self-care. it's one thing when it's a debate about random internet facts, and quite another when it's about my actual lived experience and the great deal of effort I've put into optimizing that.

for everything else, there's ArchiveBox, and the habit I'm nursing of archiving every half-relevant web page I view on any topic!

@sun there are good people/projects but they are few and far between, and the large ecosystem entities are mostly controlled by scumbags. that's my take on it from somebody who's neither inside nor fully outside, anyway.

@Moon was thinking about this after using an 'AI' tool for icon ideas and it had a negative prompt field, do you know how important negative examples are to training art generators? e.g. people in bad poses, poorly-composed photos, inaccurate 'AI' generated images with seven fingers, etc.

does feeding a model bad imagery that's well-tagged with negative terms make its output better?

what I did see in the skim is very interesting however:

does anybody else who's fascinated with #p2p #decentralized #DHT apps remember some ancient p2p network - maybe ed2k, that era - which would fall back to scanning all of ipv4 space to find other nodes if it couldn't connect to any other nodes or bootstrap servers at startup?

I read a paper on this in the 2000s. there was a degree of analysis of how long it'd take the network to re-establish itself given n disconnected nodes at the start. I'm looking for that paper/article.
