@WarnerCrocker This is weirdly not as absurd as it seems. It seems to be a response to all the anti-abortion laws that are being passed:

“All across the country, especially here in Mississippi, the vast majority of bills relating to contraception and/or abortion focus on the woman’s role when men are fifty percent of the equation.

This bill highlights that fact and brings the man’s role into the conversation. People can get up in arms and call it absurd but I can’t say that bothers me.”

These recent laws, & the enforcement & investigation practices surrounding them, are essentially making it illegal for a woman to allow an ovum to exit her Fallopian tubes without the intent to fertilize an embryo, so it's only fair that men should have to play by the same rules.

- suitable "faceplate," plus duct tape or other means of fixing
- garbage, lots of
- embellishments as desired

All power systems (& indeed most systems) are like this. My local utility has to have enough capacity, of whatever kind, for when everyone in town has their electric heater on in cold weather and also has their Xmas light blazing on the roof. My car engine has to have enough capacity to start off up a steep grade with four occupants & a trunkful of luggage, but it usually operates on level ground carrying just me and a 12 oz water bottle. City storm drains have to be able to accommodate a bomb cyclone, but they just sit there dry half the time even in the PNW.

Is it a problem that solar energy generation shares this feature?

@EricFielding @bascule Isn't that inherent in the nature of of solar energy systems (& electrical energy systems in general?)
You have to have enough capacity to handle peak consumption; but your average consumption/output is going to be much lower than that.

I have known three homeless people very well. One was an addict whose hard-won recovery lapsed when they lost their housing. Another had been convicted of a non-violent offense. One was just a very unlucky guy.

None were violent.

The most destructive addict have ever known was a professionally employed homeowner & taxpayer.

The most violent person I've ever known was a highly respected figure in their pacifist religious community.

People are complex.

1) The Pogues wrote & recorded an iconic Christmas song in which the singer's highly vernacular lyrics compare her lover to a "cheap lousy [homophobic slur]."

2) The Pogues later realized that the slur was both hurtful & harmful, and recorded a new version of the song in which the singer remark is changed to "you're cheap and you're haggard."

3) The man whose portrait lives in the dictionary under "poo-faced," aka Laurence Fox, tweets a demand for the BBC to be defunded unless the slur-bearing version of the song hits the top of charts for Xmas 2020.

4) The authors of both versions of the song respond in the truest High Pogues fashion , by tweeting:
"Fuck off you little herrenvolk shite."

**Mom received a great deal of very aggressive treatment, made a complete recovery, & died almost half a century later at the age of 94.

IIRC, those studies showed that married MEN were happier than single men. But married WOMEN, were generally not as happy as single women.
Again IIRC, another study shows a similar gender divide for the health effects of marriage; & one showing that women who’ve never been married are financially better off than divorced women.

So, I just really need to know, what happens if Kamala Harris wears a tan suit?

@glasspusher @Crystal_Fish_Caves We had a pet gopher snake when I was a kid. We had to give up all the furry pets when we moved from the farm to town (because parent's allergies in combo with much smaller land area), but Gilmore had nice hypoallergenic scales. He was very sweet & cuddly,

@RickiTarr Grab the kid, do my best to hold them in that forward facing gut-lock that works with unruly babies, & land us both near a police station where I can report the God-fearing parents who threw their kid out of an airplane for being bizarrely linguistically precocious.

(I don’t bother talking theology with the kid: babies make all sorts of noises that don’t require verbal engagement)
