Mrs B is in Manchester with The Eldest and Young Team for the next few days. I've got a bit of FOMO staying home with Daphne.

As you can see, Daphne would also prefer Mrs B was here rather than me 🥺. Depressed dog has realised she's not coming home today and is stuck with me. Rude.

TL:DR Encouragement for newer Mastodon users and explanation of my personal follow logic.

Folks who follow me here. I get quite a few followers and I don't always notice or follow back immediately because there's a lot of noise in my mentions, and I'm a bit chaotic generally.

I don't want to offend anyone and appreciate you signing up to hear my bullshit, so as a rule of thumb for a follow back, if you post or boost a lot of politics I'm probably not going to follow, I have way too much already, this is my happy place.

If we've not interacted, then I often don't notice. I'm here to talk, so if people talk to me it's a conversation and if I realise you follow me already but I missed it, often that will prompt me. Don't be shy.

If you just want to silently rubberneck at my ongoing car crash of nonsense then we're all good too.

I say all this because when I very first started here it felt a bit alien and cliquey, but over time I learnt it was ok to join in, and people were accepting, as long as I read the room and got the vibe.

I absolutely love it here, it's a revelation for me personally, and I hope it is for others too.

I was once on the outskirts, looking at the, as I saw them, "cool kids" talking amongst themselves, and it can appear like that, but it's not. If you're polite, and don't get weird (in a bad way, we're all weird here) folks will, in my experience, be nice.

Don't be a dick, join in and you can find your people.

Technically it's not today because I joined on February 29th, the most Beige of days to join a not a cult, but since that's not due for another 2 years I'm celebrating joining my lovely weirdo siblings today.

Whilst searching for The Magic Roundabout theme tune on YouTube I discovered Nickelodeon "rebooted" this beloved children's TV show.

This is the theme tune. A desecration of both my childhood memories and my love of competently crafted music.

Massive downpour of rain earlier, came out of nowhere and disappeared completely within about two minutes.. I stepped outside to observe it, and in an instant the power went out, a massive flash of lightning brought daylight to the garden and the loudest clap of thunder I've ever heard. I felt the crackle of the lightning and the house shook. Barely a split second between all three.

I wouldn't be surprised if my neighbour 2 doors down had been hit (secretly hoping he was because he's a prick). Never been so close to a lightning strike in my life.

Listened to a lot of Drum and Bass/Jungle/Breakbeat today. Nearly all of the tunes use the "Amen Break", a 6 second drum break sampled from this record, Amen Brother, the B side of Colour Him Father by the Winstons (this is my copy, the needle at the exact point the break starts).

It is the most sampled record of all time, by a huge margin. It got me thinking, and I have almost certainly heard the 6 second break, or parts of it, over a million times, literally, over the last 35 years or so. Mind blowing!

In my village someone owns an ugly Volkswagen Beetle (the MK2 relaunched version) with green, metallic, pearlessent paint. I normally shudder and avert my eyes when I walk past, but today I looked at it and noticed they have a small replica of the car, in exactly the same colour, on the dashboard.

This makes me incredibly happy for some reason.

Why though? Does the driver have a memory issue and need a reminder of what vehicle they're driving? Or maybe they love the look of the car so much it makes them sad they can't see it whilst driving.

I need to know if the tiny car also has a tiny car in its dashboard? I shall have to befriend the owner and see if I can get them to give me a lift so I can sneak a peek at it.

Daphne update

She's home 🥹

She can't stand or walk unaided yet. The part of her brain that controls her balance and coordination is where the blood clot hit, and so she is struggling to control her right side and her head keeps naturally turning left.

The neurologist said she could come home if we can manage 24 hour care. She was very distressed and we all decided she will recover better at home where she's more relaxed.

A small miracle she's in as good shape as she is. She can stand and walk if we walk on her right so she can lean on us as she tries to relearn how to balance. We've already seen a big improvement since she's been home and she actually managed 4 steps upright, unaided, in the garden.

Not going to lie, I'm crying after writing that last sentence. So relieved.

She's a wonky Whippet, but she's alive and we can rebuild her (cue training montage to Eye of the Tiger).

Daphne update

This is her today. She's been able to run for 3 weeks now and is able to manage our steep staircase and jump up onto our bed.

Right, I've had a terrible week, feel battered and bruised mentally but I made it to Friday evening.
