@AnarchoNinaWrites “No elected official ... should ever fear for their safety because of their ... policy positions.” Hard disagree on that. All politicians should be absolutely terrified of throwing a large number of their constituents under the bus for the sake of well-funded lobbyists. It should keep them wide awake with that cash under their mattresses.
So... assume for a moment that one purchased some bicycles in a "pig in a poke" auction, and one of them turned out to have no caliper brakes, a rusty chain, flat tires, and a rusty saddle post. Before lie two options: 1. Restore minimal function at minimal cost, because $5 bike was too good to be true anyway. 2. The regular bike function is toast, so might as well upgrade it to DIY e-bike now.
@dalias@bovaz@aurochs@futurebird@Phosphenes The only ads I actually don't mind are people advertising buying options for their own work, with a direct-patronage option that cuts out most intermediators. It's the advertising by people hired for the purpose, to sell someone else's work, where it all tends to go wrong. They are involved, but not *invested* in the work. They cultivate *sales* and not *fans* [with a modicum of disposable funds].
@AnarchoNinaWrites "Excuse me, I need to move through your personal space to reach my intended destination." ==> "Ope! Let me just scooch by ya, here."
@botvolution Well give me a beat, and I'll tell you all about it.... Payonpa! On the way to tha club, I met a couple dragons. Names were Bub and Bob, their spirits kinda saggin'. Because of all the puzzling suds that kept their tails from waggin'. Can you help us? We need to match the hues. And aim our bubbles at the spot to pop a few.
@botvolution I imagine space bubblewrap as multiwalled, with a small pressure differential between layers, and an outer shell of sticky gelatinous mucilage to catch micrometeors.
This morning's obsession is that Starfleet crew and guest quarters from a certain era all have exterior windows. Sure, there is a psychological benefit for windows, but also you're covering the vessel in non-critical volumes that all have individually sealable bulkheads. When everyone is at general quarters, and something breaches the hull, you're only losing morale from personal possessions and pets. Like wrapping the ship in bubble wrap, that maybe shoots people out whenever you pop one.
@selzero Bouts with starvation permanently alter metabolism to make future obesity more likely when food becomes more available. There is a virus, SMAM-1, that makes chickens fatter as they starve. It is zoonotic to humans. This and select human adenoviruses affect body fat composition. It ain't just "choose to eat too many calories". It is also living constantly awash in cortisol from lack of care and institutional abuses.
Let us observe results when poors switch diet to eat the rich.
@williampietri@peter_sc Empty language. It has the shape of communication, but linguistic reduction collapses it down to nearly nothing. Like a word zombie--still moving around, but *not there*.
@peter_sc The autistic kid in the house is viscerally repulsed by LLM writing [up to the current generation of models]. Our pattern recognition instantly flags it as insincere and hyperverbose, full of low-information phrasing and attention-squandering nulls.
I'm still waiting for a journalism distributor to break with the mass-media editorial lockstep, and instead of saying "conservative activist" try "fascist organizer" or "fascist propagandist" on for size.
I think we have enough credible sources and witness reports now. Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was definitely shot in the neck at Utah Valley University during a student Q&A event. UVU is in Orem, Utah. A suspect is alive in custody, and the condition of Kirk is generally unreported.
