@nikitonsky “Welcome, license, location, permissions, success. Are you getting it? Welcome. License. Location. Permissions. Success. Are YOU GETTING IT?! These are not five different screens. It’s all the same continuous line of bullshit!”

Watching David Lynch’s Dune. Obviously not the movie he intended to make (you can absolutely feel the lack of final cut), but it’s still ambitiously weird and contains some of the greatest sci-fi imagery ever. It’s not my favorite, but als not my least favorite Lynch! (Sorry, Elephant Man!) And yeah, taking the two Villeneuve films together…I do prefer Lynch’s version. That first one showed a lot of promise, which the second one squandered big time.

@sinbad I worked at a startup once where new people were told that they had exactly 15 minutes to solve a problem on their own, before they *had to* call on someone to work it out together (i.e. let the experienced guy take over). "Figuring stuff out on your own is not a good way to spend company time. You're slowing down velocity!" Mind you, this was the most bizarrely complex code base I've ever seen; layers upon layers to..ferry input from an iPad to a DB. I left after a couple of months.

@baldur me and my partner were watching that section together (she’s not in tech) and we both got so teary-eyed angry at the sheer audacity of outsourcing personal bonding moments to a machine, especially coming from a company that prides itself on catering to creatives and “regular” people. Making up stories for or with the kids is not a chore, it’s the reason why we have kids, dammit! It’s the same level of disregard for human beauty as the crush ad.

Apple: “We have these beautiful new vistas, so serene. You’ll love our new screensavers!”
Me: “yeah but do you have the matrix though”
Apple: “No, we have beautiful...”
Me: “‘Flying toasters?”
Apple: “Beautiful…”
Me: “BOUNCING COWS?!”

Anyone over the age of 30 who has spend any time in tech-adjacent spaces still cheering for #BigTech "joining" the #Fediverse is fucking deluding themselves. We've been through so many cycles of this shit over the past twenty years, how some people can still trust #facebook to do anything remotely ethical is beyond me.
They're not here to join, they're here to destroy. This is just the most cost-effective, PR-friendly way of doing it.

I read the whole “manifesto” and I’m pretty sure I’ve read speeches by actual Nazis that were less openly fascist. Also, my six year olds have a better, more nuanced approach to the world. It’s badly written, too. Overall just a steaming pile of 💩. Fuck billionaires. I don’t want them taxed, I want their wealth seized and redistributed.

@aral "Yes I know they've been bad in the past, but this is a new project and maybe it's better this time."
"Why? It's the same people, the same business model, the same logic."
"But this is a new project and maybe it's better this time."
"Again, why would it be different?"
