So the Maga line is now "poor people don't need food"

Obesity is a common result of poverty. Lack of access to healthy foods in poor areas creates poor health.

Framing obesity as greediness is bloody stupid.

@selzero Bouts with starvation permanently alter metabolism to make future obesity more likely when food becomes more available. There is a virus, SMAM-1, that makes chickens fatter as they starve. It is zoonotic to humans. This and select human adenoviruses affect body fat composition. It ain't just "choose to eat too many calories". It is also living constantly awash in cortisol from lack of care and institutional abuses.

Let us observe results when poors switch diet to eat the rich.

@selzero There's also the fact that poorer people are likely to live in less safe areas with less green space, and so less likely to have opportunities for free exercise.

The causes of obesity are numerous and complex. Whereas the causes of attitudes like the one in the post are pretty simple: it's an arsehole!

@selzero This is what Objectivism actually is.

Ayn Rand had a single answer to people who need subsidized education, medical care, public assistance, food handouts and life support as well as people with birth defects, intellectual disabilities and anyone who needs a device like a wheelchair or crutches to be ambulatory.

      "Leave them for dead."

This is why billionaires applaud her works. And why sane people reject her novels and works as hatred. She was the ultimate ableist. People as another herd of livestock.

@selzero I can absolutely verify this 100%. I want to eat healthier, but the healthiest stuff costs almost twice as much (in some cases actually more even.)

The more unhealthy it is, the cheaper.

And cons like "organic" aren't helping since they make even the cheaper stuff cost more. (Yes there is usually a cheaper "non-organic" option, but stores have limited shelf space and like to stop carrying the other options in favor of what sells more rather than what's best for their customers.)
