@cstross @kirrus nooo what about everyone who prefers it
Can't we just mandate written versions alongside... I would like this 👍 📖

@cstross @kirrus hbomb is an excellent video essayist who is out tackling misinformation, being an awesome, positive man, and a giant nerd.
He is brilliant, and many people do watch a lot of YouTube. He's been doing it right, for years.
No need to be disparaging just bc of the platform
(I get not being able to face hours of video - generally I don't either, I make exceptions only for a few and it takes days if not weeks)
@rysiek well, we need to do both. While these systems exist and have influence, vulnerable people are at risk. It's very important to manage symptoms AND causes. Doing one without the other rarely leads to good outcomes.
@cstross don't agree with that last line - Harris is still tied to the system of US policing, which is in no way progressive, and entirely unlikely to change her stance on Israeli occupation and violence (tho I'd love to be surprised).
America doesn't really have a functional Left, certainly not in Democratic leadership.
But yeah, Badenoch can get in the bin.
@unikitty @mekkaokereke yeah of course it is. The point is just, those women did the calculation - they decided the hate was directed at other people and that made it OK, if they could get the benefits of being close to the ones gathering fashy power.
It's like the wife in Blackkklansman. Go watch that (again)
Women of white supremacy are always at risk, but they tend to take the chance while it benefits them, and the victims of the hate are the bigger issue than when it all backfires on them.
@mekkaokereke hngh anti-choice
They're not pro-life or even pro-birth. We know they'd do a LOT differently if they were. I refuse to go along with their sanitising bs
You're 100% right of course.
@luckytran dislike the ableist language but don't disagree.
@foolishowl @broadwaybabyto this. It doesn't even match the evidence. I looked at several studies on sterilisation regret rates and similar, and they all had tiny positive results - like absolute max 5% of people expressing some regret.
It's way higher than that for people who DO have kids 🙄
@Flash hottest days by what measure? Global average temp? In a specific part of a certain country..?
(edit - not disbelief, just be good to know what it actually means)
@mariemarm @rysiek please do ignore this ramble at your leisure as it's a side note...
At least in my accent, it's more fedi as in 'yeti' - the i is a long 'ee' as opposed to the short 'ih' that's the i in universe, which again from my Br-Eng southern England tongue, sounds like the Is in 'British'. I can't think of anyone who says it like you-knee-verse.
Fed-ee-verse, rather than fed-ih-verse. If that makes any sense..!
@georgetakei at least the new food isn't rotting and making everyone having to stand in front of your face miserable
@freemo @toxomat @ned you didn't just ask, you snarked a load of snark at the person you 'asked' after the fact, when it is not commonplace to cite things that are in the public consciousness widely already. This is social media, not a journal. They weren't making a claim that people haven't already largely backed up for themselves.
If you're honestly asking because you don't know (and not looking it up yourself for some reason), you don't have to be an ass about it.
@freemo @toxomat @ned it is very, very well known that that's her pen name.
@eaton I always fancied doing this and never did.
@Hunterrules0_o @chx @MnemosyneSinger your country's infrastructure and building plannibg was sabotaged by car manufacturers so that houses and cities were built for cars, not for people. So that the transit is so far and crowded you hate it. So that people say the exact things you are.
And keep buying cars.
Travel somewhere that isn't built like much of the US and it's easy to see.
@StarkRG @dpnash @NamelessCynic @aprilfollies nah, because you don't wash 'up' any of those things, you just wash them.
Washing up is specifically re crockery, pots, pans and cutlery etc in the sink when it's dirty from food.
@fodwyer @bethsawin food delivery companies using cyclists isn't some green utopia. They're not paying them properly, they're not compensating them for risks to their health (air quality, road traffic accidents etc) - they're precarious 'gig' workers being taken advantage of.
Citations Needed pod just had a good ep on this.
@thesquirrelfish @fodwyer @bethsawin not if they have actual employees and don't classify their workers as contractors
@thesquirrelfish @fodwyer @bethsawin as mentioned, people more expert than me. https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9jaXRhdGlvbnNuZWVkZWQubGlic3luLmNvbS9yc3M/episode/ZTQzM2EwOGQtOWQ1ZS00MjJmLWI5NjItOWM3YWE4ZTViYjhm?ep=14
@thesquirrelfish @fodwyer @bethsawin I wasn't saying its the bikes that are a problem! I'm just saying that food delivery on bikes isn't indicative of utopian societal change - because capitalism
