   Reminder that the research linking vaccines to autism was FABRICATED by Andrew Wakefield to discredit vaccination against childhood diseases: he was selling an alternative remedy. Never did jail time but got struck off the medical register here in the UK for LYING.

   The anti-vaxxer ball he started rolling has now probably killed millions, thanks to COVID19, flu, and other illnesses.

   (PS: it also weaponizes bigotry against autism, leading to hate crimes.)

     @cstross anti-vaxx also became one of the many common planks of the Putin govs "adversarial propaganda & disino" sabotage against the US and EU/NATO nations. I did some work once for the US State Dept to help counter/mitigate it

     @cstross It‘s even worse, because the alternative remedy was splitting up the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine into three separate ones (one of which he held a patent on). Originally he was not anti-vax, he just switched when it became clear that he could make more money with that grift.

     @kirrus I do not watch TV/movies. And I *especially* don't watch YouTube with its interminable vacuous advertisements and horrific, toxic recommendations.

     @cstross @kirrus hbomb is an excellent video essayist who is out tackling misinformation, being an awesome, positive man, and a giant nerd.
     He is brilliant, and many people do watch a lot of YouTube. He's been doing it right, for years.
     No need to be disparaging just bc of the platform
     (I get not being able to face hours of video - generally I don't either, I make exceptions only for a few and it takes days if not weeks)
