Loops DMs: By default, messages from accounts you do not follow will appear in your Requests inbox, and will only show one message until you approve the request.

Subsequent messages are discarded, until you approve.

successfully tested with Mastodon and Pixelfed ✨

To prevent abuse with Loops DMs, we implemented some security features:

- You can only DM mutuals if your account is 365 days (90d default) old, or older and you have more than 50 (10 default) followers

- Default messaging privacy is "following", meaning only accounts you follow will appear in your inbox, others in the requests inbox

- If you message an account with "following" privacy, you can only send 1 message until they approve your request

Pixelfed is for photo sharing, I didn't want to combine Loops into Pixelfed like Instagram did with Reels.

They did that to increase ad revenue, whereas Pixelfed and Loops can be separate platforms that are better suited to each persons preference.

I should have made that polymorphic 😅

It's not too late, but yeah, polymorphism is almost required for future feature support in some circumstances.

I'm talking about the Loops Report model/table, there are now more than 8 distinct report types, and adding a new one involves adding a new column.

Nothing a new migration can't fix, that handles existing rows properly.
