@broadwaybabyto So, if I understand this right, after your doctor lied to you about your chances of catching a debilitating and deadly airborne disease in a facility that concentrates sick people, they essentially told you to go kill yourself? That doctor needs to have their medical license revoked. Maybe they can go work in a morgue and deal with everyone they sent there.

starkrg@myside-yourside.net's status on Monday, 09-Sep-2024 02:49:56 JST StarkRG Pro tip: if you're concerned that being inclusive and accepting of diversity will alienate portions of your community, stop and realise that *not* being inclusive and accepting of diversity will *also* alienate portions of your community. It's not a choice between alienating a portion of your community or not, but a choice of *which* portions of your community you're going to alienate.
Then also realise that, if you decide not to alienate Nazis, you become a Nazi.

Someone should make a list of every reporter that gave Trump a softball interview, didn't press for any answer or call him out on bullshit. Then someone should make a browser add-on that detects whether an article is written by someone on that list and blocks it.

Uh, what? Those are definitely not things. (ok, the second one *might* be, but it's definitely not used much)

starkrg@myside-yourside.net's status on Saturday, 20-Jul-2024 08:57:15 JST StarkRG @gwynnion The Democrats have a playbook of some kind, in the event of X do Y. This must be drilled into freshmen congresspeople so hard that they start believing that everyone follows the same playbook and become confused when they don't. This playbook hasn't been updated since sometime around 1960, and then probably just to remove the part about Black people not being allowed to be Democrats.

Actually, at this point it's more like a season finale of your favourite show that you're almost hoping might be the series finale because it feels like it probably should have been cancelled a couple seasons ago and now they're starting some ill-conceived time travel plot pushing the setting back 70 years.

starkrg@myside-yourside.net's status on Monday, 17-Jun-2024 13:06:10 JST StarkRG @Wolven I really want AI to be awesome and useful, but everything being marketed right now is just absolute garbage. I think it's probably already ruined the term "AI" for any serious work.
Even if we ignore the environmental and ethical concerns (which we shouldn't), AI isn't even good at most of the the purposes they're pushing for it to be used. AI seems best at providing fuzzy answers to vague questions, not truthful answers to specific questions.

starkrg@myside-yourside.net's status on Sunday, 28-Apr-2024 22:47:05 JST StarkRG @jeffjarvis English doesn't have grammar rules, it has sets of common grammar conventions. Not everyone follows the same set of conventions, but it's still English. Example, the split infinitive "rule" was introduced by someone with a hard-on for Latin, but split infinitives have been part of English for longer than it's been Modern English. Same with ending sentences with prepositions.
Judging people based on their use of English is no less bigoted than judging them based on skin color.
