@argv_minus_one@pettter@drbjork@goatsarah In addition to what the other person said, most nullify themselves by attacking the divisions within their own movement. Something that also allows them to be infiltrated.
Remember those massed tree planting campaigns? While the idea has utility it must be appropriate to the locality where it is being done. This means native plants, putting trees where they were in the Holocene, and not putting trees on top of healthy landscapes like bogs.
@notjustbikes Sadly while I like Strongtowns for what they are, Chuck's politics that he is running on are not great and present as stock conservative horse hocky with no recognition of LGBTQ+ people and non heterosexual relationships.
Plus his podcast is great except then he did the episode for conservatives and lied about the left over and over, as if that is the only way to talk to US Conservatives.
@fu@noturtlesoup17@nsarwark@cujobyte That is some weasel wording right there. The definition of democracy is literally people's rule, it means the people are the source of power in a democracy.
And the majority, ideally, is whatever segment of the population that wins a given election by voting. The minority there is just what ever group was not the majority of voters, not a ethnic, religious, cultural, or gender/sex minority automatically.
You just need to plug in the search term "slavery civilized blacks" and you find examples. Here is one: ews/2023/07/28/disgusting-black-republicans-livid-over-desantis-slavery-attack-00108776
@volkris@futurebird@cadenza Dude, I gave you both a specific example and a way you can find more for yourself. So why do you keep acting like there is no evidence of these ideas out there on the part of what we now call American Conservativeism?
@volkris@futurebird@cadenza Ah, no it did not. The point @futurebird brought up was that the idea that there are conservatives who believe that slavery was good since it gave slaves skills. You objected to that and asked for evidence. I provided that evidence and you then pivoted it to being something about DeSantis in specific.
So you are being a dishonest conversational partner here.
No it did not. A direct quote you can look up yourself:
"At issue are the new education standards for how Black history is taught in Florida schools that DeSantis signed into law last year. The revised guidelines, released this month, require educators to instruct middle schoolers that “slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit.”"
