@2d@GreenFire@augieray@underpantsgnome@zleap god bless you and thank you. We will get it with people like you. While those who sit and whine and don't vote give us those in power who will never get us #rcv
@2d@GreenFire@augieray@underpantsgnome@zleap I want ranked choice. It's creeping in in Maine, NYC, etc. Mostly under democratic party acquiescence. While the GOP continues to do their voter suppression thing. So how do we get ranked choice? We vote Democrat and demand it. We don't just chill out and do nothing and expect people to read our minds
@BeAware you are deep dive eyes and ears. keep at it. there are bombs out there, waiting to go off. you're like an advance scout in a war. a war just getting started
a downside to decentralized: since no one "owns" anything, anyone can be anyone, like the "anonymous" hackers can put out all sorts of announcements because anyone can pretend to be anonymous
if there is major scandalous misinfo from that account, it needs to be made an example of though, socially
1. don't get discouraged, this whole topic is just beginning to heat up. roll up your sleeves and jump in, many many more twists and turns to come
2. turn to reporting. sorry if you already reported on the fake fediverse account and i missed it, but just spreading news on this issue is a big deal, thank you
3. enjoy the popcorn! drama wave forecast is high
4. let's kill centralized social media. tiktok, instagram, twitter: we need to KILL IT
I know there's some backlash against Eugen on a number of issues but that's to be expected with any cutting edge community of misfits and anarchists. As long as we kill centralized social media I frankly don't give a fuck what Eugen does. If however he gives into the dark plutocrat empire that is meta, well...
I don't have a problem with that because this is the frontier, so of course you're going to get new functionality that isn't rolled up into a standard, yet. If we wait for standard bodies decentralized social media will beat centralized sometime around the year 2324. I think it makes sense functionality should come first, then it is standardized later. Waiting for standards bodies is not how you innovate.
i have zero doubt you guys are doing amazing #UI work
our problem of course is the centralized control #meta represents on content, with opaque algorithms. no doubt used to squash CSAM and right wing hate... but also anything outside facebook's plutocratic agenda
Online discourse: "You have to convince me to vote for Joe #Biden"
Why? I don't like Joe Biden. The idea that anyone has to convince you to fall in love with Joe Biden is as absurd of a #political assertion as the #MAGA cult and #Trump, that #politics is about #passion
made by the US War Department at the end of WWII, a discussion between a regular Joe who almost gets seduced by a fascist street preacher, and a Hungarian immigrant who tells him this is how Hitler started, in detail
at a moment of historical clarity, an inspired piece of propaganda
how #fascism rises: divide and conquer with hate, while regular folks go "just crazy talk"
So there is some finesse here. The difficult task in containing latent fascism is knowing how to react to it. Too harsh and you feed it. Too soft and it grows.
But this is absolutely true and everyone must know it:
You aren't going to have to eventually confront fascism.
It is simply the truth that it is always there to be confronted.
All of us. All societies. For all time.
It's always bubbling under the surface. And it *must* be confronted.
Granted, it's possible to be *too* aggressive here.
That casual misogynist might just need a little talking to. While a hardcore reaction might backfire.
And WWIII right up front over a minor land disagreement... yeah, no.
So again, Karl Popper:
"I do not imply, for instance, that we should always suppress the utterance of intolerant philosophies; as long as we can counter them by rational argument and keep them in check by public opinion, suppression would certainly be most unwise."
