This is the bike lane along Aberdeen Beach. It enrages car drivers because cyclists never use it. I've never once been there when there wasn't at least one car parked right there. They also park on the zigzag line at the crossing. I've also never seen a traffic warden. I wonder if the two things are related. #BikeTooter

@CloudyMrs Try Dumfries. We don’t have any traffic wardens and the cops have announced they will not enforce parking restrictions. People park anywhere they want, often resulting in dangerous and inconsiderate parking.

@david_orr Hard to believe. Car drivers are normally so considerate. 😐

@CloudyMrs No bikes actually or they don't notice other 2 ton machines?

@InkySchwartz there are no bikes in the lane because its always full of parked cars. Cyclists can't get past.

@CloudyMrs Just wondering if there are really no bikes on the lane or the drivers don't notice what are there because they are not other cars.

@CloudyMrs My first thought was "why is there no hard segregation?". Streetview shows that wands were originally installed. These are not great for segregation but something at least. What happened to them? Why are they now missing? Destroyed or removed?

@geomannie probably because it made it more difficult for motor vehicles to park. From that photo, they didn't make parking impossible, though. In Aberdeen, the loudest voices usually prevail. I expect the lane to be abandoned the same as others nearby already have been. Cars rule in the oil capital of Europe.

@otfrom Go out the side door of the station. You go over the top of the railway line on the bridge inside the station, through the carpatk and out the door onto South College St. There's a bike lane down S College St but I haven't tried it. I'd go through Ferryhill to Duthie Park where you pick up the start of the line. Alternatively, get off at Kintore and go cross country to Banchory where you will pick it up. Further, but nicer, in my opinion.

@CloudyMrs I have to admit, I'm getting a little nervous about the bit of my journey from Aberdeen Station to the start of the Deeside Way in August. I'm not seeing any good routes. Lots of dual carriageways.

@otfrom also, there are bits of the deeside line that are not passable. Be aware that you're going to be pinged out onto North Deeside Rd for some sections. The new path from Aboyne to Glentanar is lovely and worth a detour.

@petelittle1970 The useless lane is newer than that. Maybe five years ish. The road planners have bunged in random bits of cycle lane, closed streets to cars, and put in bus gates. Aberdonians have never been known for their sunny disposition, but trying to get around the city now by any means just has everyone raging.
