@silverpill@jupiter_rowland not sure yet. The other founder of Rebel Tech Alliance (the technical one) would build everything using Elixir if you let him. I'm not a developer by trade do am not so particular.
@jupiter_rowland@silverpill we are thinking of building a federated version of Facebook Groups, so people can leave Meta's cesspit.
What you describe sounds ideal - minus the science fiction at the end (we'd only need cloning/moving within our app initially).
And since it is new software then all the Mastodon problems you describe do not apply. All these features could be baked in from the start. We would need E2EE within the groups (so the host is blind) - just for an added challenge 😁
@jupiter_rowland@silverpill Steams looks interesting as a base. I think the only thing missing would be the E2EE. What we're planning is something that would be used by any kind of community - a sports team, a band, an activist group, investigative journalists. They would have their own group, and everything within it would be private to them, but also there's a public newsfeed. E2EE so host is blind. Logged in you'd see which groups you are properly 'in', and those you just follow for news.
#fedi#askfedi Is the #ActivityPub protocol any closer to having data portability? And how about single ID usable in different apps? And how about E2EE?
Academic journals being invented, and now those citations contain bullshit #AI citations, giving legitimacy to a string of bullshit papers.... Flooding the zone with shit.
The cynic in me thinks this could be deliberate - by those who want to make the 'post-truth age' a reality.
@Mer__edith in the negotiations do you suggest to them alternative ways that police and security forces could catch bad actors using encrypted services?
I.e. trying harder with investigative work.
If big tech can track us everywhere and predict our behaviour using metadata, why can't the authorities do the same?
@element is the pro version still open source, just with a price tag?
That's fine IMO. I think open source should be paid for by those that can, if the product is good. This is the approach @futo are taking and I see nothing wrong with it. Open to contrary opinions though, as I'm relatively new to the open source world.
My angle is that I want to see money diverted away from #bigtech and towards privacy-respecting open source products we can trust.
@eff Step 1: delete your #facebook account Step 2: delete your #instagram account Step 3: don't bother with #Threads Step 4: relax and move on with your life, enjoying the massive reduction in #creepy 😁
