    @sim @KeepTakingTheSoma @Gnomeshatecheese @polarisera MAiD, in my experience, does work like that. You get a referral to a provider, because not all GPs are willing to do the extra education and become certified (nevermind the ethical dilemmas that some wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole).The MAiD provider does have to review your chart, because otherwise, they wouldn't be qualified to fully evaluate the situation. You have a couple of appointments, and, if the MAiD provider accepts your case, you still don't get a date immediately. Some people get approved for MAiD but never set a date, and die before MAiD is implemented. They say they find comfort in knowing that, if their suffering becomes unbearable, they have an out. Some people die in their homes, some in hospital. There's a lot of accommodation made for these patients.

    Anyway, it's not like you roll up to your GPs office, and a hearse is waiting out back.

    @sim @Gnomeshatecheese @polarisera I agree that the issue is complex.

    I've seen passive euthanasia since I was in nursing school. That's still a thing. But, there can also be abuses in keeping someone alive well past what is reasonable.

    I hate that they made TV ads for MAiD. Hate, hate, hate it. And, I really hate that it's being offered in non medical situations.

    Anyway, medical ethics is complex, and it can also be abusive to prolong someone's life beyond hope.
