@KeepTakingTheSoma @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain The benefit comes from pointing out their lack of logic and sense to those watching.
Sure, a lot are already captured and will ignore it, but many aren't and they might well realise the whole "movement" is built on nonsense.
@KeepTakingTheSoma @TriptychTwinsRidesAgain But they actually can use male facilities at will... If they choose to do so.
Surely if they genuinely were at risk in male changing rooms, they wouldn't be staging such a protest in a number of undisclosed locations?
@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain So five men who have had extensive plastic surgery will be using male facilities at changing rooms.
... and...?
I expect they think they're making an amazing point with the topless bit, as I'm guessing at least some of them have had implants.
But does the guidance actually say anything about swimwear dress codes..? As in does it really maintain that males must wear trunks?
Hell, I would if it was actually possible and it didn't mean wrecking my existing life.
The difference between me and the so-called "trans" is that I know it is simply not possible.

how many people ended up dead as a direct consequence of the spread of nazifascistic thoughts, then words, then attitudes, then actions
In that case you're not arguing that attitudes, or words, are violence, you're arguing that actions are violence. Attitudes are not the same thing as words, and neither attitudes nor words are the same as actions. And the two former ones do not automatically lead to the latter, or even reliably so. And even if A did lead to B, which led to C, that would still not mean that A=C.
Words mean things and separation of concepts is important. Suggesting that because some thoughts might be aired as words, and someone might take damaging action based on those words, it follows that the thoughts themselves "are violence" or "constitute violence", damages that separation.
encompasses an injurious attitude of dehumanization, of disrespect, that is violence. it's the attitude, not the argument.
Pardon me for inserting myself here, but are you arguing that words aren't violence, but attitudes, i.e. thoughts, are?
Because frankly, that would be even more absurd.
As for the "other kinds of harms and injuries" being "even more hurtful and damaging", I'm going to do as the Aussies and go yeah, nah. To a great extent because I've never managed to kill anyone or put them into hospital by saying bad things, or having injurious or disrespecting attitudes towards them. And that's not for the lack of trying.
@KeepTakingTheSoma I think, said something about how the prog-crowd like to call their opponents "flag shaggers", and pointed out how that crowd really likes to wrap itself in this or that flag.
Well...
Case in point.
Flags everybloodywhere.

@KeepTakingTheSoma If Banksy didn't have all the right opinions, there's no way he'd be so popular among all the right people. The common phrase is that someone like that "speaks truth to power", but as long as the power in question more or less nods along, his truths aren't particularly groundbreaking.
I'd say I'm looking forward to him lampooning men who pretend to be women, but I think one lifetime wouldn't be enough for that wait.
@KeepTakingTheSoma @MrAndyNgo True, he can't.
But I'm not too big on personal refutations anyway, because actual perpetrators use them all the time as well. What matters is external evidence. But I'll edit the original.
Also, a variation of 2: he had enough clout in "the community" that anyone knowing about wrongdoing had reason to believe they would become the target of a mob, were they to say anything.
It wouldn't be the first time people keep their mouths shut until a person is dead, because they fear repercussions.
Request to tech-savvy people.
Could someone photoshop this image so that the flag is the pink-and-blue trans flag? Would be much appreciated.
I see a lot of people claiming that the statue is lampooning nationalism, but what they forget is that nationalism is not the only ideology with flags.
And right now I can think of one particular flag that would fit this statue to a T (also: see above).
It never happened some time ago, again.

“Toileting practices vary across cultures. These practices may be very different from your own, but it does not make them unsanitary or incorrect.”
I want to know what this refers to.
And in general, I want to know what kind of "racist" incidents they want the staff to be on the lookout for.
But mostly I want to know what these "toileting practices" are that are not "unsanitary or incorrect".
@HebrideanHecate @Flick @FeartnTired This is very similar to Chomsky's demonstration about how syntax isn't dependent on semantics, i.e. you can have a semantically nonsensical sentence which is nevertheless grammatically perfectly correct. It's basically an illustration of the difference between syntax and semantics. He was also making a point about how probabilistic grammar analyses are inadequate when it comes to explaining whether highly unlikely sentences are grammatical or not, but that's a very geeky side point.
His was colourless green ideas sleep furiously.
Politically Chomsky's a right weirdo, but as a linguist he was not without contributions. Although his TG grammar has since been determined to be of much more limited utility than originally thought.
@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain I read the first one as "Aromatic spectrum awareness week".
Wasn't sure what the flag was meant to be all about, but I figured the green bits were for herbs.
And why is the person wearing scrubs?
(Sidenote: font choice matters, people)
After all, we ALL know that "misgendering" is the same as denying someone's existence. And if you deny someone's existence, they instantly vanish into a puff of nothingness.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @EatKnitSleep2 @Flick At some point, being childish became cool. And quirky.
That was a huge cultural mistake.
Not in the sense that everyone has to be serious all the time, but in the sense that indulging in all kind of childishness as an adult became cool.
(See also the concept of "adulting" as something unusual one has to make an effort for.)
I've become convinced that many adults who engage in such support are themselves addicted to controlling those in their charge and keeping them dependent instead of supporting them to gain some agency.
You know, now that you said it, I think this is happening a lot with the explosion children's diagnosis for this or that "neuro" condition. I do think the diagnosis criteria have been expanded to include people who are just unusual, not actually pathological, and could do fine with maybe a bit of extra help. But it seems that a lot of them are effectively being held back by the diagnosis and the accompanying interventions. Thus forming a self-affirming prophecy where these kids are first told they have a Condition, then told it will hinder them, and finally encouraged to use crutches to get through life, because they "need" them. And then of course the kid grows up believing their Condition will hinder them and that they Need the crutches provided.
You're right, it is sad.
@EatKnitSleep2 @KeepTakingTheSoma @Flick That makes sense as an explanation.
Personally, I've never been one for props, I think. I do like fiddling with things, but I had to learn early on to relax and sit still if I had nothing in my hands.
@KeepTakingTheSoma @Flick But how does it help one to cope in the first place?
I can see a fidget toy doing something, as it's an active release for nervous energy. But what does a soft toy do?
How does a soft toy help with emotions? Even if we are talking about a child?
(Previously when asking questions like this, I've been accused of pretending to be stupid, but I honestly don't understand.)
