@GrumpyOldNurse@Flick well it is. I'm totally helpless, but it is my business. Can't even make a dent in issues that affect the women here that are my category. But I can't not care. How do people manage to compartmentalise to that extent. Does not compute.
@inscius@Flick pardon. I've had ME for 39 years, so no, I won't tell you. You know what we've all been through with disbelief and the crap some come out with so I apologise if I was too snarky.
@Flick@inscius there's a tab for flu. you can see from this year's colour it's rising earlier. There's no wastewater testing for flu, and generally people don't get a test, so this is based on confirmed cases bad enough to have seen a doctor, and hospital admissions. Therefore general population cases will be *much* higher.
Due to prevalence of flu, covid is currently very low, off the wastewater numbers.
Not sure what you mean about entering the age of the virus - some of us have been struggling with post viral for a lot longer, just the vast spread of covid brought it to the attention of all the previously healthy people. And the vascular nature of it has caused such long term damage - the % infected continues to be so large globally that rare isn't rare any more.
I have decided to unionise my workplace. And start a splitter network within this new union. Elections for office bearers will take place next week and everyone eligible to vote (er, me) will receive nomination papers in their ducots (none of that app shite).
@Gnomeshatecheese@Flick he also stopped short with just the carrot thing, we don't know what point she was selling with that. But I did think it was interesting seeing an analysis of persuasion
@Lady_Penelope you don't need to pay the licence for radio, but mum does because radio 3 remains a major source of her music, the BBC orchestras are still going, and I listen to a handful of radio 4 origs I'd really miss. Otherwise, yeah major reform needed. Also the gardening progs on TV. But that's a sore point in her state.
@HebrideanHecate thing about this is we do absolutely need to crack down on this - there's two things wrong. 1. using the careworker visas to bring in women who end up working for illegal wages in other sectors and 2. conditions being so bad in care that only desperate immigrants can be made to fill the places.
there are so many care agencies, and care homes, that are owned and run by men (and some women) from India, various African countries who are here to exploit everyone concerned. The local authorities payments. the NHS payments. the families. And the workers can't leave one care home/agency to go to another better run, with better wages because the bosses act like the slavegang masters - with-holding passports, threatening to get them deported, keeping crews with very little English so they are dependant on the bosses for everything.
Set against that are plenty not like that at all of course, there's good an bad everywhere, but the push to make it an immigrant dominated profession should tell everyone there's a lot of dodgy shit goin on.
HOWEVER rescinding the visas does NOTHING AT ALL to address any of the actual shortages or problems with care sector. It's all very well saying we should be training people here, but at zero hours and shit money, no-one wants to do it.
