@Flick I'm still shocked at the number of people here that downloaded the app that allowed you to know if you were in close proximity to someone with covid. They bragged about it on social media and encouraged others to do it. An app that tracks you and is linked to your medical information. On your phone. Because safety. No concerns about how the information would be stored or shared.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @HebrideanHecate @RadicalCartoons @Flick I was in a store a while back and was asked if I wanted their points card. When I declined, the cashier assured me that it was free. I told them that if it's "free" it's because I am not the customer, I am the product. Took him a second for it to register. I've told my students the same about social media. Nothing is free, these companies aren't in the business of giving things away, they are making money from it somehow otherwise they wouldn't do it.

@FeartnTired Some can, others can't. Reading comprehension is way down with a lot of them. They want you to explain things to them. They can't infer information, they need everything spelled out explicitly. They lose interest/concentration after a few paragraphs. If given questions about a text they will skim it for the answers instead of reading the whole thing. There are some in that lot that have different reading/learning difficulties that are not being properly addressed, some others just don't have the attention span. On the other hand, there are others who are voracious readers and will get completely immersed in a story or research topic.

@HebrideanHecate @KeepTakingTheSoma JFC, we've had one kid make death threats, nothing was done until the teacher called the cops, then the parents lawyered up and he had to be re-admitted. It took months to get him out to a program where they are taught at the school board, one-on-one, and even then, they provided transportation at lunch so he could 'socialize' twice a week.
Gee, I wonder why more people don't want to be teachers?????

@HebrideanHecate Yeah, there seem to be some of the British feminists who believe that since there is no biological proof for homosexuality then it is not innate and therefore a choice. The host is one of them so she has had a few speakers on who espouse this.
The was one speaker a while back, a lesbian, who cut her off (when speaking of her group) with 'we don't do that'.

FFS, weren't homosexuals told for long enough that they could choose not to be??????
Someone pointed out in the comments that it's a slippery slope to saying men can also be lesbians. She's not wrong.
