Ugh. I have to go to work. Summer vacay is officially over. Pray for me friends, we have a staff meeting at 10 which I predict will be a combo shitshow/grievance session and 'this could have been an email'.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @sensei We have been pressured for a long time not to give zeros. At one time the minimum grade we could give on a report card was 28%. We are supposed to use our professional judgement to assess acquired competency. I give the grades they earned. If that means that they only handed in one half-assed assignment in a term and that assignment is worth, say 10% of the final mark, well they get 10% of not much on their report card. If they didn't hand anything in, then there is no grade, only a comment stating that the competency could not be evaluated.

@TriptychTwinsRidesAgain @HebrideanHecate I'd argue that they are already suffering if they are limiting their moveements within their own neighbourhood because of this as well as being basically told that they will be harassed or assaulted and no one is doing anything about it.

@Flick I'm still shocked at the number of people here that downloaded the app that allowed you to know if you were in close proximity to someone with covid. They bragged about it on social media and encouraged others to do it. An app that tracks you and is linked to your medical information. On your phone. Because safety. No concerns about how the information would be stored or shared.

@KeepTakingTheSoma @HebrideanHecate @RadicalCartoons @Flick I was in a store a while back and was asked if I wanted their points card. When I declined, the cashier assured me that it was free. I told them that if it's "free" it's because I am not the customer, I am the product. Took him a second for it to register. I've told my students the same about social media. Nothing is free, these companies aren't in the business of giving things away, they are making money from it somehow otherwise they wouldn't do it.
