@sun Britain is a constitutional monarchy.
I'm not sure when it was decided that British values are "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs." but I think this was more of a modern invention. Perhaps even a response to the changing demographics of the UK, to assert civic nationalism in a way. That anyone can be British if they have these values.

Veiled Christ:
"Veiled Christ is a carved marble tomb effigy completed in 1753 by the Neapolitan artist Giuseppe Sanmartino. It is formed from a single block of white marble and was commissioned by Raimondo di Sangro, a prince of Sansevero, as the centrepiece of the Cappella Sansevero, in Naples, Italy.
Sanmartino produced a sculpture with the dead Jesus lying on a couch, covered by a veil which adheres perfectly to his form. The mastery of the Neapolitan sculptor lies in his successful depiction, looking through the veil, of the suffering that Jesus had undergone during the crucifixion. Signs of Jesus's pain can be seen on his face and body."

@scathach @genmaicha The queer representation doesn't represent me at all, it ends up being very confusing with its new language and exclusionary even to those that it claims to represent. Queer is insufferable. When I watch content that includes LGB which I like doing from time to time, I run the risk of being exposed to this. It is off-putting and I don't see myself in it at all. I don't think that I am alone in this.
Regardless, this isn't about old content. I didn't make it clear in the first post but this is about indie authors of now. People that would think like the guy who rightly pointed out that we're creating content for the adults, but not for the adults and their children. To get little boys interested in fiction, to give them heroes to look up to and grand adventures to go on.

@genmaicha Who are they? Are they mainstream or indie? Do they still put stuff out?

@genmaicha Haha. Isn't this a part of the problem? We can point to examples from the past but how much of the current content can be said to apply like this, even in the indie scene? Do we want to change culture, to create culture for the next generation... or do we just want more of the same thing but without the identity politics?

"Where are the novels and comics that 30-40 year olds can love and then put in front of their 13 year olds?"
I'm getting called out here for not writing for this audience even though I agree with it.

Very anti-Semitic of them to call an instance basically run by a Jew and now Israeli citizen a nazi instance. This must be a microaggression or something. I thought they were supposed to like other Jews?

@thatbrickster Yeah. What is up with the leather bondage gear? What does that have to do with sexuality?

@awl @triodug I never really got into Friends. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't my thing. What does this make me?

@dcc @Ergo @thatbrickster If you think that group dynamics are bad in schools then good luck with the internet. There are some really degenerate groups out there. Ones that even drive teenagers to self-harm and suicide. That blackmail them into doing this after gaining their trust.

@dcc @Ergo @thatbrickster Yeah. Young minds get exposed to things that they shouldn't be, they end up being treated like an adult too soon. Just like propaganda from the news does this. Constantly fed bad news that keeps you in a cycle of fear and anticipating the next thing. Perhaps gossiping about it. That is basically the algos and social media these days. If adults are caught in this trap... imagine less developed minds. Not easy to reject when it is everywhere.

@dcc @Ergo @thatbrickster Being online exposed me to being groomed and I didn't even recognise that was happening until much later on. Lots of stuff gets normalised and you don't know who you are interacting with. The internet is a wild west in that sense. Much easier to be exposed to adults who don't have your best interests in mind. Even the young adults can be a problem for a young teen. I would caution it. Books are much better if you can afford them.

@dcc @Ergo @thatbrickster Better for them to read books on complex subjects than risk them finding social media or forums online. Humans are really vicious sometimes.

@Ergo @thatbrickster Perhaps. But I had internet access too, and it might have fucked me up worse than school did. I got bullied there too. Happy days. But once I was basically cut off then I moved on. It hurt at the time. But in hindsight I should have done it sooner and found decent people to hang out with.
