@oblomov @larsmb is it surprising that someone who has advocated for decades that software be "free as in free speech" supports free speech?

@sun and if it did make you support nazism, it would also make you support every other ideology that could possibly be conveyed through speech, so even then it's a meaningless accusation.

@kaia 15 years ago "overpopulation" was presented as a potential catastrophe along with climate change. we could benefit from declining birthrates if not for the welfare system etc. expecting endless growth; because it would mean less competition over resources, especially land, and would reduce pollution.

      OpenIndiana
OpenIndiana is a free and open-source illumos distribution compatible with SPARC and x86-64 based computers. The project began in 2010, forked from OpenSolaris after OpenSolaris was discontinued by Oracle Corporation, and is hence descended from UNIX System V Release 4. Created by a development team led by Alasdair Lumsden, the OpenIndiana project is now stewarded by the illumos Foundation, which develops and maintains the illumos operating system. The project aims to make OpenIndiana "the de facto OpenSolaris distribution installed on production servers where security and bug fixes are provided free of charge." History OpenIndiana takes its name from Project Indiana, the internal codename for OpenSolaris at Sun Microsystems before Oracle's acquisition of Sun in 2010. Origins Project Indiana was originally conceived by Sun Microsystems, to construct a binary distribution around the OpenSolaris source code base. Project Indiana was led by Ian Murdock, founder of the Debian Linux distribution. OpenIndiana was conceived after negotiations of a takeover of Sun Microsystems...

the only thing people ever talk about in relation to taiwan is the prospect of a chinese invasion, but I don't see how that should affect one's decision to visit or work there, because if china invades then you'd probably just get deported.

@RustyCrab the mass starvation and anarchy scenario strikes me as pure fantasy. even during the period of hyperinflation in weimar germany, normal people still managed to get by without living like aragorn.

@RustyCrab if a lot of jobs suddenly become obsolete, then there may be a depression / recession for a few years until people figure out what to do with all the unemployed workers

@scathach @prettygood tbf, male fashion before the renunciation had gotten really grotesque (see pic 1). a better approach to male fashion consists of relatively simple clothes that are still unique to the individual (pic 2).
