This is one of those things that wasn't obvious in 2020 and had to be learned -- when we see the 1-in-x numbers from canada covid hazard index they systematically overstate the risk *IF YOU ARE NOT NEEDING TO VISIT THE HOSPITAL*
which, by the way, is not something you can usually easily control
It means covid continues to BE a problem but one that is easy to sweep under the carpet...until it isn't.
This suggests that groups of size 482-1000 might be OK in saskatchewan right now (with n95 masks) (ie this would include even larger events). So for example, the NDP 'bird shooting' outdoor fundraiser in yorkton...probably fine. Saskparty aligned churches with a few hundred people? Probably fine. Bars? Probably fine. Again *as long as everyone's masked and not eating/drinking inside*.
but that IN THE HOSPITAL your risk is higher and that is going to continue to cost us.
ie not getting covid under control means that if you have that random heart attack, stroke new cancer or stab wound ....suddenly your chances of making it drop considerably.

incidentally there are ways to control this risk
1) better air filtration in hospitals
2) masking in hospitals
3) testing in hospitals
4) contact tracing and actually treating sars2 as the identifiable disease it should be treated as
5) (longer term) building smaller hospitals
the larger the hospital the more likely nosocomial infections will be spread in it. building super large hospitals might be good for a bunch of other efficiency reasons but it is terrible for covid -
