@ninafromcanadaeh Though high cost of living has a lot to do with it, I personally know a few that moved back in with a boomer parent because the boomer parent needed to be taken care of. But with there not being any room in old folk homes or the boomer parent still being too young for that etc it’s just easier to move in together.

I’m betting it’s gonna be more normal as time progresses

Behavioral scientists found that people who prefer solitude over socializing aren't lonely - they've discovered that the quality of their own company is higher than what most social interactions provide
      from Lachlan Brown
There’s a story our culture tells about people who prefer being alone, and it goes something like this: they’re lonely, they’re avoidant, they’re missing out on the richness of human connection, and sooner or later, they’ll pay a price for it. I used to believe that story. I don’t anymore. Not because I read some … Continue reading ""

@shrikefliesfree @Sherri_Ingrey May the crusades start soon once again, and deal with it properly this time around. The warfare done by islamists in Europe, Africa and Asia is outright disgusting and to ignore this and pretend these filthy monsters are peace loving and good and kind is beyond foolish and at this point nothing but a hate crime against humanity and all life on earth.

@HebrideanHecate At my job we have about folks with ADHD/ADD. Only 2 get drugs for it. The other 3 aren’t eligible for pills aka they don’t have adhd. What they do have is the ability to generate money in the scheme the government set up that if a company hires a person with a disability they don’t have to pay them as much money.

This resulted in companies looking for “disabled” folk a lot. Hence if you give more people a stamp it more likely they get hired into non existent jobs but it looks like you as a country are doing really well. Fuck it all.

@HebrideanHecate I know of 2 companies who sell bs but earn money due to getting paid for hiring “disabled” folk. It’s a very depressing situation and just not maintainable long term. A major collapse is inevitable some day.

    The hogwash that is psychiatry.

In 1973, healthy volunteers faked hallucinations to enter mental hospitals. Once inside, they acted normal, but doctors refused to let them leave. Normal behaviors like writing were diagnosed as "symptoms." The only people who realized they were sane were the actual patients.

Rosenhan (1973) Experiment – ‘On being sane in insane places’
      from Angel E. Navidad
The Rosenhan study in 1973 suggested that psychiatric diagnoses are often subjective and unreliable. Rosenhan and his associates feigned hallucinations to get admitted to mental hospitals but acted normally afterward. Despite this, they were held for significant periods and treated as if they were genuinely mentally ill. The study highlighted issues with the validity of psychiatric diagnosis and the stigma attached to mental illness.

@KeepTakingTheSoma Don't be mistaken. It happens in the private sector as well. Many companies get bonussen (one way or another - can be the government hire them for a big job if they have x% of employees from a particular demographic) for hiring certain folk, who then can't do anything and are just there bumming around. It can be very lucrative to have them around like that.

@KeepTakingTheSoma This is me in the office literally. Because as wonderful as they think AI is, they literally can't fire me without the company taking a massive blow in the nuts. Have to hire a new one, train them etc, is just too much of a hassle at this point.
