    Right but if the topic’s stated concern is about people using the view with replies in ways one may not enjoy then it’s only useful if you convince nuisance users to use the one without replies. That’s why I don’t think it helps with the stated problem

    I’m not arguing against "technical decisions shape discourse". That statement is true. My point is control of others’ experiences and choices on a UI level are either draconian or in effective depending on the measures involved.

    Drive bys won’t go away regardless of what happens. It can be discouraged but not stopped unless at the near total loss of freedom and openness. The second edge of the liberty sword is that all enforcement is at least nominally reactive.

    To me the problem with your post was the idea that there’s a technological solution for preemptively avoiding it. I think the technological solution is adding the ability to mute a fork in the replies, which is reactive but would work.

    Preemptively removing replies from the timeline would hide a lot of great users who find good threads but seldom start threads.

    If I don’t like how a person handles himself on a consistent basis I mute them. Or if a follow keeps boosting them.

    The change in user base has been a problem. It was better before poast and kfcc and NCD shitted up every thread but it was tempered and mitigated by the off-kilter normies from noagenda.social before Pastor Adam blew it up. Meanwhile old school SPC users have drifted away and those who didn’t leave are some of the best remaining users along with a select few with other homes.

    No, noauthority isn’t even remotely the same. SPW isn’t either, and neither is FSE bugout zone
