Raw volume isn't what needs to be delivered, energy is. H2 is 9MJ/l Methane is 55MJ/l. So you need to transport SIX times as much to get the same energy to your destination.

A key point that's being neglected in this discussion of who the "customer" is. The customer for auto manufacturers in the US is car dealers, not drivers. And the most valuable resale products for car dealers is financing, followed by maintenance. So car dealers are incentivized to resell expensive cars that need lots of maintenance.The exception to this is Tesla, which sells directly.
