Hi Mastodon, I've launched a new project called Left✊ to Our Own Devices.
It's a blog and newsletter about preparedness and survival in times of fascism. Unlike "prepper" content that focuses on being the last man standing alone in the wilderness, this focuses on practical, modern tips like digital safety and community-focused resilience.
Please check it out and sign up!
Announcement:
This account is shifting to a largely automated relay. Don’t expect live posts or interactions, content here will be auto-harvested from my blog’s RSS feed, from my link sharing relay, or other automations.
I won’t see replies or DMs. Posts will auto-delete after a week.
Live posts can be found on Bluesky at @emily.gorcen.ski.

Cool links thread. Possibly better than just pasting random links as posts all the time lol
LB: if you are a founder of an actually useful business that uses "AI" technology in some defensible way, you should be glad that everyone viscerally hates it so much in public. the sooner we can get out of this "AI" hype cycle, the sooner your investors will stop demanding that you slather "AI" branding all over everything, the sooner you can talk about what your product specifically does and what value it provides and stop blathering about "AI" vaguely.
Here's Alvin and the Chipmunks singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" ... except slowed down to 16 RPM:

For those who just need a newsletter with no paid options, Mailerlite might be good. (Please gods *don’t* use Mailchimp though.) Personally I prefer SendFox and got an AppSumo deal on it, but you do you.
SCOTUS granted five other cases for review this morning as well. Here is the orders list: https://www.supremecourt.gov/orders/courtorders/121323zr_f204.pdf
Do you want to read almost 9,000 words on AI, manifest destiny, millenarian cults, evangelical christianity, the singularity, and how we have stopped trying to play God and now are trying to build God? Well here's your chance.
Last week I was in a book club conversation about Going Infinite, Michael Lewis' new book about Sam Bankman-Fried, and so have already been just stewing over effective altruism for the last week.

Just today, I was on the Justice Department’s press release page. It gives you a keyword search, but returns the results in a random chronological order with no way to sort. Why??
I was trying to search for a course to prep for the SC-900 exam on Udemy through my work account. I got dozens of results for things that weren’t the SC-900 exam even when I used the exact title for the course copied from another tab I had open
