There is a Tumblr post from some years ago which immediately sprang back to the forefront of my mind, because it's relevant and, ultimately, seems to come up every time a rich (usually but not always white, because wealth in the US, Canada and GB are functionally tied to a lack of melanin) gay guy decides to put money and institutional cachet ahead of basic human decency and the rest of the LGBTQIA+ community.

It's titled "Pete Buttigieg is just a faggot." And if the title throws you off at first, that's understandable, but that's not the author's view of Pete Buttigieg. It's the author's very accurate and piercing impression of what the conservatives think of him, of what the fascists believe him to be, of what the people who want us dead will always carry as a reason to want him dead, too.

"Just a faggot."

And with him throwing trans folks under the bus, Mayo Pete gets another distinction, not from the murderous fucktards scything through their own tendons in an effort to get at people who just want to be left alone, but from those people who are now watching him abandon us to the rabid pit bulls.

Quisling. He's just a quisling. And that's all he'll ever be. But unlike the fascists, we don't want to kill him for it. We just won't be inviting him to our birthday parties. We don't like you any more, Mayo Pete. You aren't our kind of guy anymore. They're coming for you, and we'll still try a little to protect you as a decent human being would, but because we know that you wouldn't do the same for us, we might be forgiven for trying a lot less hard.

Kind of an important difference, wouldn't you say? If you stop sucking up to the Orange Hitler Party, they'll want you shot dead. If you stop advocating for us, we'll just sigh and chalk you up as one more fair-weather ally, to be voted out and forgotten.

I can't help but feel that it's always to make themselves feel better. To feel better than the folks that are being oppressed and - increasingly - murdered, because otherwise they have absolutely nothing to their lives but a number in a bank account and a long list of failures.

Stomping with that spiked bootheel is a lot easier, if that much more expensive, than actually trying to be a better person.

The way I see it, the world where a Nazi is happy is a world where no other people exist, at least in any meaningful way.

Dump 'em on an island with the requirements for basic living, drop in a package every few years, and forget about it. It's the most humane thing.

I do not want Nazis on my side. I really don't. I want them to Go Away, preferably enjoy their lives in isolation where they don't have to interact with the rest of humanity. They bring nothing of value to the table, and in fact lower the value of everything with which they're associated, due to the fact that they eliminate so many of the benefits of social groups simply by sitting there in their jackboots and browncoats.

Bringing them to our supposed social project will drive away the most valuable members, those who contribute and help each other out, and all that's left is an empty shell with a few 'middle-ground' folks wondering where everyone else went amid a sea of 'sieg hail'-chanting eugenics-munching child rapists.

I'm glad I didn't lean into #bluesky. With them openly and even gleefully welcoming JD Vance to the 'conversation', they've happily pointed out the very sturdy curtain rods on which the swastikas can be hung (and the minorities hanged).

I have no doubt, especially since the legislature is presently out of session, that one will almost immediately, and those two seats aren't particularly wavering in terms of support.

With the senate and house split the way they are, though, this seems like a possible attempt to push Democrats into quieting down and not voting, or voting with the Republicans, terrorism if ever there was. If a chilling effect takes hold, then that could swing the effective control back to the Republicans, even if the state's blue on paper.

Yesterday, during training (customer service position), one of my coworkers asked if they should be using #LLMs to answer customer queries, and my blood ran cold.

Before anyone could respond, I jumped in and said, "No, absolutely not. Generative #AI doesn't give correct answers. It gives responses which look superficially correct, but are factually wrong. And when we give the customer the wrong answer, they don't want us to blame the machine. The blame lands squarely on our shoulders. Do not use ChatGPT, don't use Google AI, don't use Bing's whatever, just DON'T."

Thankfully, everyone thinks I know what I'm doing, so they accepted that. But this is such a common question that nobody thought it odd to ask, and that makes me worried in a very different fashion.

One of those interesting points of fascism is the reduction of humanity to an ever-shrinking point, in the minds of those who follow it. Differences are culled and castigated, neighbors become untrustworthy, isolation becomes a key even as it purports to create a unified group.

Empathy has no place there: the only people worthy of existence are 'Those Like Me'. And my, doesn't that sound like the monetarial Elite?

So, a military aircraft collided with a commercial jet earlier today and managed to land in the Potomac.

With a previous order, the Trump administration issued a freeze in funds for multitudinous agencies, amongst which are air traffic controllers for the FAA & FCC.

I will not conflate causation with correlation, but I will always remember that the latter looks towards the former, whispering insidiously and gesturing in a most suggestive manner.

Seeing people panicking over nVidia's stock dropping like a stone at the news about an open-source LLM comparable to ChatGPT but without a country's worth of electricity needed, and I'm just shaking my head.

How is it even slightly possible that in this day and age, with THIS many crashes in the last twenty-plus years, that people still can't recognize a bubble when they see it? How? All of this, the billions of dollars wasted on nothing, had every hallmark of a bubble if not an outright pyramid scheme scam. It was always going to pop like a helium balloon at a porcupine's birthday party. If it wasn't this, it'd have been the perfume wearing off the stinkweed, something I expected to happen quite a while ago anyway.

This was brought to my attention by the lovely Yaseen, but evidently Facebook Chat has renamed their trans- and enby-themed chat options to 'harmless' variants. Co-opting the flags and taking them from our community. Isn't corporate pride great?

To quote Tailsteak, Facebook is for toy cows and racist uncles, and it's clear that's only intensified since. I see absolutely zero benefit in federating with them -- less than zero, really. It'd be a massive drain on moderators who've done this for a community project, and would only cause harm.
