I'm in full agreement, though Mangione's manifesto illustrates that his goal was terrorism -- to make healthcare CEOs afraid. But hey! Let's also look at how health insurance companies terrorize millions upon millions of Americans day after day.

It's clear that a system which demands you pay it for 'protection' against illness or accident, then revokes that protection when it judges you unworthy through an intrinsically biased and flawed lens, is terroristic. It colours every aspect of one's life, by design. People on 'health insurance' debate whether to go to a clinic for their cough, just in case it's not covered, because they can't afford the charges.

If terrorism charges were legitimate, every insurance company would be indicted, and so would many, many others who subsist off an economy of fear. The fact that they're not illustrates the true nature of these charges: another half-baked method of control, and typically a racist one, too.

Dear DM, you know, just last week several civilians and a fellow cop were shot by an NYPD officer in pursuit of a fare-jumper, all over a $3 ticket.

A mayor willing to curtail behaviour like that would probably be a breath of fresh air in a city which has been choking for decades.

In one of the most striking moments of Sidney Lumet's film Twelve Angry Men, a veritable masterpiece of the closed-room drama, Juror 10, one of these Very Fine Conservative people, goes off on a very racist rant against the defendant. Gradually, the entire rest of the panel stand up and turn their backs to him, disgusted by his behaviour. He becomes more and more plaintive, demanding that they listen to him, until Juror 4 finally says, "I have. Now sit down, and don't open your mouth again."

Unsurprisingly, the proceedings are generally saner from that point, by which I mean that they have less bigotry. And at the end, lacking that 'reason' to hate, even he elects not to offer a guilty verdict, as reason finally prevails over rhetoric.

And I daresay we're in agreement that if that is oppression -- that we have taken the opinions of the hateful under advisement, considered, and rejected them -- then we need much more of it in this world.

Yanno, I'm EXTREMELY glad that sex workers and their partners are being provided first crack at the vaccine, but I'm deeply, thoroughly annoyed at the continued narrative that MLM relationships, sex work, and the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole are chiefly responsible for the spread of monkeypox.

That's the kind of shit that lets bigots murder people, especially since it's not actually an STI per se, just easier to spread with extended close physical contact.

What gets me is that DEI is a vital, even critical, part of any company which purports to be invested in making software which is suited to a wide variety of users. When you have a homogeneous set of software writers, you're not going to get a wide variety of inputs -- and your output is going to be likewise constrained. (And that's putting aside the implicit biases found in, say, LLMs.)

What Microsoft are saying now is thus the racist and sexist equivalent to every abled manager dismissing the concerns of a disabled employee -- "It works for me, so it must be a you problem."

Well, we know the point of this, as Laffy said. We saw it in 2016. Remember those days? When the party was intentionally split by the establishment who just Could Not Stop Talking about Hillary's "E-mails", a nothingburger rapidly eclipsed in the first days of Trump's presidency by his family discussing official business in a half-dozen separate public-server e-mail accounts? All those people going "I'll never vote Hillary", so Mr. Bigly Mac got the big chair in the Oval Office?

If Biden becomes incapable of doing his job to the fullest extent that he was previously able, then I expect he'll still have the understanding and reason to delegate to his cabinet, because that's kinda what they're for. If Trump wins, even if he weren't a fascist dictator wannabe under Heritage's thumb, when his obvious mental degradation hits the tipping point, he'll still cling to every scrap of power like a tapeworm sufferer clinging to a McDonald's hamburger.

It's unfortunate that presently, the enjoinder only applies to one teacher -- and good for her, at least! -- but this is, at least, a crack in the proverbial wall.

I don't expect it to be, but it would be hilarious if the fallout from Florida's draconian, fascistic limitations result in modes of gender expression being generally recognized as a form of 1A-protected speech.
