A.R. Moxon has a pretty good statement on bullies and the fact that they will always continue to push, and push, and push some more, unless a line is clearly drawn. They make it impossible to ignore them. Their actions are calculated to that effect. Only when it's made clear that they can't push more, either through the intervention of authority or the victim lashing back out in a way they can't ignore, do they finally stop.

Every adult who pretends otherwise is an enabler.

It's an old trick to assign agency, and every time I notice it I'm careful to pay attention, because that exposes the biases and intentions of the speaker.

Agreed, though at the same time, we need to have them understand that the road to redemption is not just a matter of hopping the fence. Every one of these mooks whining, "I didn't vote for that!"? They did. They voted for exactly that. They just voted for it to happen to someone else.

The purpose of the post office is to deliver mail.

It's not supposed to make money! Charges and fees are meant to defray the costs of running it, most of which are gathered through taxes and apportioned through Parliament. This is not rocket science! Not everything has to be financially solvent! The returns from the delivery of mail, especially to rural Canadians, far and away outweigh the cost of service!

I swear to fuck, fiscal conservatives will throw away a $100 to save a dime.

There's a lot of discourse going on here, but I'd just like to remind everyone that the perspective of 'there's a lot more mentally-ill cis white people, and they're allowed to own guns and commit mass murder' is giving a weapon to the ableist groups who'd like to strike all forms of neurodivergence from society, in entirety, in the stupidest possible way -- which is to say, eugenics.

Yes, it's highlighting hypocrisy, and that's good, but it's still granting legitimacy to the idea that a mental disorder or neurodivergence immediately renders someone dangerous to themselves or others. And the vast majority of mental and emotional concerns are undiagnosed through a combination of social stigma and shit psychological healthcare, anyway, so it's not like they're going to be going after anyone except the most visible. It's another layer of security theatre mixed with ableist hate and probably a good amount of warfare against other disadvantaged groups, as well.

(Hey, you know what exacerbates mental conditions as much as anything else? Poor living situations! Know who gets poorer living conditions? Visible minorities!)

In truth, the fact that the people who would shoot up a school are literally everywhere suggests to me another solution, e.g. banning guns overall. But that'd be ca-raaaaazy.

One of the most obvious portents in which you can see the fall of an empire is when they stop trusting their military advisors, and begin replacing them en masse with yes-men and other useless wastes of flesh.

You cannot possibly obtain accurate assessments from civil or military servants who know that the instant they deliver bad news, they'll be shitcanned. There just aren't enough good folks willing or able to risk their positions. What you're going to get are a set of data which align with the boss' preconceived notions, and as it so transpires, reality doesn't care what premonitions Trump sees in his daily shit.

It's not even subtle. Not that I expect either of these assholes to know the meaning of the word, not when one's political opponents keep falling out of windows, but this isn't just a land grab, it's a land grope.

A reminder here that arbitration always favours the abuser -- which, in the case of a corporate/individual dispute, is almost invariably the corporation.

Background: Air Canada decided to skirt labour laws by saying that flight attendants aren't on the clock until the plane leaves the runway. This, combined with the fact that the contractual pay did not keep up with inflation, has led to a strike against the company, well-known for being abusive and dismissive towards employees and customers alike.

12 hours after the strike began, the Liberal government, known well for sucking off Air Canada's fuel line, declared that forced arbitration would need to be done.

The union saw that arbitration would, by its nature, favour Air Canada and fuck over their members, and said, 'No.' So good on them.

To those who've had their flights cancelled by Air Canada, remember that they legally have to reimburse you for a flight on another airline unless you accept another option, so don't accept a refund when the replacement might be more expensive.
