I have had a headache for 3 days and I need it to stop.

Ragweed pollen is off the hook right now, so that's likely why. Sigh.

My boy is coming over tonight to do laundry, go grocery shopping in my freezers, and have dinner. :)

The reality of how hard it is out there is hitting even though he has a good job, an inexpensive apartment, and paid for vehicles. Everything is so expensive now, he's struggling.

Hard lessons are best taught by experience, but he's lucky to have parents who give a shit about him. :)

I would very much like to work on painting my sewing machines, but it's raining and you really cannot paint when it's raining. Too humid. Paint runs and won't dry.

Old Fort Niagara is pretty friggin neat. Too bad I'm so sore and can't really climb all the stairs. What I could see though is super cool. 300 years old this year.

Painted overtop the gold leaf decals with a custom mixed enamel paint that closely matches the original. It was rubbed off in spots, scratched. Generally looked kinda bad. It's not perfect, but I'm learning. :)

Doing my future self a big favor by not doing drywall over plumbing stub outs but instead building in access doors. Old houses move. Plumbing doesn't necessarily move with it. :)

Yanow, there was this whole thing that happened after Rome burned where Nero built this enormous palace with giant gold statues of himself and a great big swimming pool.

    Hmm.

Here are the first few steps in turning all my blowfish sneakers into slides so they don't rub my heels into meat and I can actually wear them.

I will add posts with photos of the steps as comments to this post creating a thread instead of separate posts so it's easier to follow.

I first draw a curved pencil line from the side of the tongue on each side stopping approximately 1cm from the beginning of the side sole. You'll understand why shortly.

Now to begin cutting the shoe. The sides of these sneakers are made of 2 layers of cotton material, so they are trimmed easily with scissors following the curved pencil line.

Both sides of the sneaker are now trimmed to the heel flap. We won't cut this straight across. I'll show you why in a minute.

Now take an xacto knife or scalpel (be careful! Extremely sharp!) And trim up the sides of the heel flap. Remove the trimmed piece. Do both sides.

Peel the heel flap layers apart and notice a stiff piece of rubber hanging out back there. This we will remove.

Take your knife and cut the LINING ONLY in a line from the inside sole up to the curve you cut earlier. The idea here is to reduce bulk and open up the heel so you can remove the rubber heel part. Notice the line of stitches at the bottom. Take your knife and cut through th thread every 3 or 4 stitches. The liner will pull right out.

Sometimes the rubber heel piece is stitched in separately. This one is not. It lifts out no problem.

Now you'll see why I left the 1cm of fabric on the sides and the heel flap intact. I fold this over and glue it down to the inside of the shoe creating a neat, burr free edge at the heel. First though, you need to cut a slit so it all lays flat.

The little slits on the sides are now cut and it's time to bring out the big guns.

    The glue.

I use heavy duty contact cement like E6000 or shoe goo. Testing out the Gorilla brand this time. I wash my sneakers regularly so the glue has to be able to handle that. You also want something flexible. For obvious reasons.
