doesn't the argument for ICE being anonymous to avoid harassment apply to every law enforcement agent? and other government officials that make decisions Americans don't like as well? #immigration

people should not be harassed but the way to get there is not for everyone to get to or be forced to be anonymous. otherwise how do we stop people from doing illegal things?

we have to confront the polarization of the society. too many are enjoying being assholes (or watching people making that content) without concern for the repercussions on the larger culture.

but how does one draw those ethnic lines? who decides? how do you actually get each nation to only have that proper ethnic group as you define it?

seems to me like some of the wealth in land will end up redistributed as well. can't imagine how this process would make people hate each other more than that class war talk folks like me engage in of course.

mostly what @tchambers argued for re fixing the 7 sins.

I'd add that we work towards everybody being defaulted to a server based on locality w extra features like FB/Nextdoor offer. FB is still popular cause it serves family, friend and neighbor group needs.

basically servers based around user type, not content type. also ghost/WP "native AP articles" features for all creators etc.

and a payment protocol to simplify direct and automated support for development and content creation.

Just got an email from #apple about podcasts with links to their #xitter, #TikTok and #facebook accounts. Seems so weak.

Why don't these other big tech players try to take down their competitors by promoting #ActivityPub? It would cost them nothing. Run a server etc. Promote it in their other products. Fund development just a little. They don't need to win, just weaken the other guys.

I was told this is how capitalism works :P

depends on our goals. depends on the software. communities (social networking) or public conversation (social media). both?

to me, mastodon rn is about replicating original twitter. the universal civic/cultural forum. answer A.

but then why be decentralized? because centralization concentrates power which breaks the whole system.

long-term, we need most using software that does all the basics w servers based on locality. add features for local community needs.

I want a place that allows us all to understand each other and learn. that requires an open network but it also requires other stuff, like everybody to want to use it. so I oppose the harassing accounts you have no problem with (because imo you think equal discourse would be bad for your goals)

and that's why I muted you. you should be able to talk to whoever you want but imo you're here like an advertiser would be. to push, never to learn. multiple accounts serves that
