I want a big fedi and see social media as essentially about the public conversation and getting attention. I want hashtags to work well here without bots but otherwise can't understand the concern.
@wjmaggos sure. I think some people feel like there is a difference in kind between a hashtag feed like https://mas.to/tags/fediverse and the hashtag feed at https://tags.pub/profile/fediverse , because the second one can be followed remotely so it looks like a person. Nobody opted into the mas.to feed, of course, and you can't opt out, but mas.to also doesn't notify you that they're sharing your content, so most people never think about it. But there is software on both servers sorting content into a feed.
it means being able to click on a hashtag and see them from the whole network. maybe I'm using it wrong but I still don't see that. I have to go to the tagspub account. also I know it's a hard problem.
and while I think the upset people have a very diff perspective on fedi (imo their goal is social networking not social media), I also get how the bots feel wrong. it feels like an algo, especially when you haven't considered we don't have other ways to solve the problem or don't care.
