@evan Reaching an age where my tolerable temperature range is narrowing.

Sad thing is, a/c is going to become necessary for health. But its use is among the decaying, not balancing, feedback loops in our climate situation.

Shade, open windows, cool breezes are all preferable, but increasingly not viable, certainly not in urban heat islands in the most southern, most populous parts of the country.

So. Premier of Alberta is claiming to be on a diplomatic mission, asking the US, via Breitbart(!?!!)not to drop the whole stupidity of tariffs, but to delay them until after an election?

She is actively requesting a foreign country interfere in a Canadian election.

So that country can benefit from the future compliance of the right-wing fringe, presumably electable if tariffs are scheduled for May, and which will not do anything further to defend Canadian sovereignty.

Have I got that right?

I’m not sure how what i wrote was that terribly misinterpretable, but if you didnt read it and the problem is that i was comment boosting something i thought was awesome but you didnt want shared … i’m happy to remove/unboost. Sorry for the misstep.

@dansup i very much appreciate everything you’re doing! And i’m trying to navigate the waves myself, still, even after 7+ fedi-years.

I see bits of flotsam and jetsam that have swirled around since i was downloading and decoding alt.binaries off usenet. Some are not visible to many others and dont matter. Some are not visible to many others but matter much, because they’ve become embedded in the digi-cultural foundations we stand on, long before we built here. And they rot.

@dansup as a mastodon mod, and hoping to work as a PF mod once cosocial gets an instance going … a mod switch to alert to hashtag abuse, or to filter them right out on my instances, would be an appealing option to have.

@dansup theres potential to use the actual engineering to improve the social engineering - you have room to dampen the antisocial and predatory influencer-culture import by making the behavioural tactics less meaningful here. Pixelfed is already losing value for me as i see more and more use of it for memes and pictures of text rather than actual photos. Hashtag spamming ruins the network potential of hashtags, sort of a paradox-of-tolerance problem.

@dansup a five hashtag limit would be more polite, frankly. Figure out your actual damn real audience and learn to post quality stuff they want to see. Otherwise keep your crypto spam off my caturday and mosstodon!

@dansup gotta say, i wish people would get UNused to them. They’re being abused to inject irrelevant content or outright spam . Blocking ppl right left and centre for doing that (its against rules & CoC on my instances).

I'm working on a SQL course. Not a terribly academic one, just an "intermediate SQL for professional interest" sort of thing.

I've understood conceptually what triggers are for decades. But I've never been a coder, never written one.

I just worked through an exercise in creating an audit table & trigger to populate it, for a database. It's less than 30 lines of entirely readable code.

There are at least 10 "database developers" in my past I want to dig up out of their graves and punch.

Also don't be stubborn - do what the docs and OT and PT tell you and take the pain meds! It wasn't for an accident, but that was the #1 most important advice when I was hospitalized.

I just in the past few minutes stumbled upon https://fediwall.social , a configurable social media wall that lets you configure and display selected public content in a rotating panel based on server, accounts, or hashtags.

You can do this on the fly, or customize and save a link, or install and run your own, by the look of it.

Canada's total abandonment of any effort to continue peacekeeping operations has similarly frustrated me. Time was, OUR troops would've been the first in to a UN mission like that.

That said - please visit the hashtag and posts. Get to know your Fediverse neighbours, and if there’s another node out there providing a community or vibe you appreciate, consider if you can chip in some coffee money.

The whole point of #fediverse is we don’t stand alone.
