@GryphonSK The annoying part is that there's actually a directive for the latter: Romans 14:21 WMB It is good to not eat meat, drink wine, nor do anything by which your brother stumbles, is offended, or is made weak.
But I guess asking them to actually read the thing is too much. @aral
@timClicks@CptSuperlative@pluralistic For many years now, I've pointed out that (generally) the more directly your work helps other people, the less it pays.
@CGTKyle Taught it "wasn't about slavery" in high school in Tennessee in 2000. "It was a range of reasons: states' rights, economic reasons, taxation, etc. Slavery had very little to do with it."
Thankfully, we had a student who studied up and brought notes to class, then tore into the teacher publicly. @kbg@mekkaokereke
@cwebber I had a moment like this years ago. My grandfather passed and left me a pocket watch from 1912. Inspecting it, I realized nothing I had done or would do in tech would last as long as this watch. It's still ticking.
Not well, mind you. It needs some repairs and I was quoted $400. But it's still a beautiful timepiece. With a few new parts, it could still outlast all I do. 1/2 @alcinnz@mcc
@thomasfuchs Have you seen the retro tech enthusiasts around here? I wouldn't be shocked to find someone running a barebones Fediverse server on one of those.
@aeva The official stance is that they are evil, evil binary blobs. But you can use https://gitlab.com/nonguix/nonguix to get them and other naughty proprietary software as long as you don't mention it in official channels.
