@cstross Yup. They very explicitly said they would target Hunter, as well as some others.
I just hope he does some other things as well.

@hannu_ikonen
I genuinely can't get over the insanity of that immigration bill that they kept talkign about Trump torpedoing. It's more strange and intense than would have been passed by Bush when he had the trifecta- right after 9/11. It's difficult to explain just how awful it is/was, to the point where I wa sthinking it was going to be some sort of 'okay now here's the real solution we're going to work towards' followup, but that...never materialized. Then Harris said she would pass it.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
How dare you write about something you feel strongly about in your own manner and the way you want? Heh. Honestly it's always nice to see people who present a lot more NT than I have their hyperfocal tangents.
I am not sure why the cure never resonated with me. Someone from college tried a bit to get me into them, but it didn't take. I recognize the talent, but nothing made me just dive in ( most other bands of similar fame I at least have one song that I adore).
@cstross Entirely valid!
I was just curious because that's how I work a lot when programming (NOT, typicaly, when writing) and just go 'okay I know stuff happens here but let's go do somethign else for a while' and let it cook in the backbrain.
But my novel writing experience is...minimal, so I didn't know if it 'doesn't work' or wasn't a preference, or...well, you know.
Thanks!
@cstross Preface: Not offering advice, but I feel like you 'tried this' so I'm curious why it didn't work-
What is the downside of 'writing an opening', then 'oh this cool scene/interaction between these two characters' and temporally hopping around a bit, then stringing it together? Does it come off disjointed? Does it not mesh properly for you?
@AnarchoNinaWrites
Honestly if htey could just spend 1/20th the effort actually attacking the right as they going after -you specifically-.
If they're going to go on the attack, why not attack people who are actually doing harm, instead of someone who they disagree with on specifics but generally agree with on the big ticket items (in theory, in their mind, anyway).
It's not like you're hiring skywriters here. They sought you out in the first place.
It's a bit depressing how many people are just very 'well, I carefully curate my feed so I don't see that many Nazis and I know I am giving them more power but I don't want to change my habits'
@celesteh @mekkaokereke @ktp_programming @dan613
This comes up every single year with the 'kink at pride' discourse, too. 'But what if we take our children to this parade! This [historical protest march celebration about sex and identity] needs to [conform to what I think is appropriate as not a member of the community or intended audience].'
This happens -every year-, and it's legal and free speech, but they just don't like LGBTQ+ people existing in any meaningful way.
@cstross
I suspect they're going to instead strengthen the seal of the confessional (for the christian church only) and any discovered items are going to pertain to that so as to relate to the parishoners who came to them with these urges. Which parishoners? Well they can't talk about THAT, you just have to trust they're doing it for the right reasons.
Obviously, they work for a church
@econads @Bongolian @greenpete @pluralistic
Yeah it's a good line.
I wonder who wrote it? Shame when these things just lift wholeheartedly they can't give citations.
@mekkaokereke @benroyce @joeinwynnewood @Alon
After watching this, I feel like there is (probably accidentally?) some rebound effect on this. Not the ad itself, I suspect that was off putting ( if you say infuriating, I will concede that, just felt more like 'ugh, really?' in my mental model).
However. The way the conservatives are reacting to it, and the tone they are taking just makes them look -awful- and might galvanize. I am not confident in this, but it feels... possible.
@mekkaokereke Not even sure where to grade this, but apparently some of the more vocally mysogonistic right hacks are now saying that if their wives voted for Harris it would just be like her having an affair and it would need to be corrected.
So while your entire points stand, now they're apparently attempting to force the other thing into reality by vaguely threatening that it would be fine to punish a spouse for voting the wrong way.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
I'm sure the far right crazies are saying 'haha look at the silly government people, it was clearly untrue'.
I'm not sure claiming to have committed election fraud is a crime, but I sure as fuck wouldn't be tempted to do it even under a pseudonym.
I do suspect a lot of people this cycle are going to learn why 'do not fuck around with the US mail system' is a bit of a 'joke' in the sense of haha but no seriously don't. Odds are against this turning out well for them.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
oh god I hadn't actually come across anyone DEFENDING Cheney, that thought literally never had crossed my mind; I blame being tired or something. I thought it was just people marveling at the hypocrisy (oh heavens above!) of them feasting on their own other pure evil people in the same party (and I assume calling him a RINO, still not grasping the term).
They're both just...so awful. In every sense.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
I actually don't think I can come up with literally anyone that Trump wouldn't attack, and anyone who he'd attack that his ardent fanbase wouldn't try to then justify as being awful/evil and he's right all along.
The literal best you could hope for for some of them would be 'I don't think he really said anything that bad; you're exagerating. No I don't want to hear any further information on the subject, can't we not discuss politics? I still am voting for him.'
@waitworry @AnarchoNinaWrites
See? We had to do it before because now they are getting organized, and now this isn't going to be enough, because they might fight back to overcome the oppression they clearly needed before now.
And look how much this oppression costs! I know it's resulting in taking more money from you, but we simply have to keep this other group under control. I mean, they seem to be so angry and dangerous for no reason!
It's depressing that this works.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
I had a discussion with a friend a while ago where he was pretty sure Trump was bringing up Chicago for a generic racism dog whistle ( like Portland, or San Francisco are often shorthand, as you said), and he thought at the time that using Detroit would be too obvious.
Of course, we have moved on from such subtlety.
Detroit is about as likely to go red as DC. Hell, he's even going to Aurora tomorrow, and CO isn't going to suddenly go red- but he can do a racism there.
@freemo @GlasWolf @TabletopBellhop @rdonoghue
I feel like there's nontrivial overlap with the people who intentionally trim credit and the people who are all in on AI.
Look, someone else said it better than I did, but, I can do it ALMOST as well, so I might as well just pretend I came up with it, because in my mind that almost...well, it's like that meme with the 'I made this', really.
https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/i-made-this
I'm not great about making sure I hunt down original credit, I should be better.
@AnarchoNinaWrites
Even for a black nazi, I was a bit surprised by the overtness of it. Not that he believed it in his heart ( not surprising, nor does it matter much, actions etc), but the degree and specific stuff was far more past the edge than I expected.
Also the hyper realistic nazi action figures definitely was just creepy.
@homelessjun @inthehands @MisuseCase @mekkaokereke
It's also worth remembering that even the slightest pushback can result in quite a lot of nastiness. Remember this whole thing?
https://gizmodo.com/nypd-union-doxes-mayors-daughter-on-twitter-1843813751
They basically threatened the sitting mayor's daughter, and effectively got off without any reprisals. This is...kind of horrific when you think about it.
