    I uh, don't spend a lot of time criticizing people in far away places dealing with conditions I am not dealing with so it would be ideal if we skipped to the part where people realize my concern is very much with the power structures I'm immersed in and ruled by; how hey behave, what their goals are, why they want me to see events a certain way.

    Why the weather is what it is isn't usually what I'm worried about; why the guy on my TV says I should be happy about the weather, does concern me.

      @Oggie What's giving me all kinds of bad deja-vu is the degree to which my media is adamant that "these are moderates" and "Al Qaeda has been purge from the rebels." This is particularly worrisome to me given what Kurdish reports say about the HTS and the long history of Western media deploying the word "moderate" to cover for some pretty terrible allies.

      Again tho, I legit don't know their (our media's) precise motives yet.

      @AnarchoNinaWrites I'm kind of wondering about the same. I don't know if it's just narrative shifting (it's not gaza, it's not the guy who killed a board member, it's not the various insane trump picks), or if it is sort of a long structured groundwork play for either supporting or downplaying israel's importance (could go either way on this one), or if it's...something I have simply not considered.

      But considering this wasn't even a whisper a week ago and it's wall to wall (tv coverage) now?

      @CedarTea yeah that's not far from what I've been able to glean so far tbqh. I, like you, have no idea if that's the whole picture or not (at least from the perspective of Western media and the empire they support; I know it's absolutely not the whole picture from the Syrian perspective but given that I'm not a stakeholder in that perspective, I have no interest in criticizing it. Only what our ghouls are using events to accomplish/sell on my TV.)

      @AnarchoNinaWrites
      Assad was backed by Russia and Iran, so his fall weakens their positions. Israel now has a more open corridor from the Golan. Pretending HTS are the good kinds of fundamentalists allows them to turn a blind eye to whatever fuckery they get up to, since the west is only concerned with the macropolitics and their own self interest. At least that's what I've gleaned.

      SDF/AANES/etc have stood up various defense organizations which are hopefully effective.
