I am once again asking people not to use "convicted felon" as a dunk. There are a lot of felons who are behind bars right now, specifically because they they took risks that you wouldn't when fighting against fascism, and the state convicted and punished them for it. They deserve better.
There are felons convicted because they're poor, because they're black, because they're indigenous, or just because they're inconvenient. Do not give over your moral compass to this immoral system. It will swallow it whole.
When the fascists screamed bloody murder over migrants, the liberal response was not to fight them on it, but to show their own "toughness" on the border. And so, when people hear about the border, they think it *must* be a problem because both parties say so. And so they think "who is stronger on the border?"
They will never think the dems are stronger on the border, no matter how many fascist border policies they adopt. Never.
When the right wing conjures a boogeyman, the centrist instinct is to take a compromise position with it in the name of "pragmatism". They either believe the right must be acting in good faith, or in maintaining unity with the right. But over time, this act of reifying that boogeyman convinces them that it's real. And in an electoral realm, when you cede the ground to the boogeyman, it's not surprising that people go with the fascists who said they could protect you from them.
A month ago, my timeline was full of people saying that the UK had stopped fascism, and that in November it would be "America's turn".
It's obvious today that fascism in the UK was not stopped last month. Fascist pogroms have erupted across the country, even with a Labour government in office. You cannot vote fascism away.
But what's also true is that regular people are standing up to fascism in the UK *right now*.
Landlord advocate says what tenants already know - N12 forms come because the leeches' carrying costs increased and they're trying to skirt rent control.
The nerve of this soulless fucking ghoul to say that tenants should know these aren't our forever homes because we don't own them. Get absolutely fucked.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Ah gotcha. Thought it was a smaller town but I guess not. I feel like I know exactly what a hunting outfit is (though it's odd phrasing), it just doesn't set off red flags for me.
@AnarchoNinaWrites As someone who lives in the sticks, wearing hunting clothes around in non-hunting situations is extremely common. Seen lots of kiddos walking to the pizza shop on lunch in mossy oak. My guess is some urban liberal who can't process other cultural contexts wrote that. Hell, I've got a camo hat on right now. I wore camo in our pride parade lmao
@AnarchoNinaWrites I think Harris is likely instead, personally. Mostly for the reason you just said, plus they can argue the primary nonsense all holds because it's the normal succession. That way they can anoint instead of opening worm cans.
Makes it also annoying that he picked someone nobody liked, but again, same 5 Year Plan either way. If the intent is to be a half-hearted speed bump, she's at least equal to Joe assuming she can win.
@AnarchoNinaWrites The most annoying part is that the whole thing will be memory holed if and as soon as there's a new Official Party Line. And that's coming from someone who kinda doesn't give a shit if it's Joe or someone else, at least in the abstract, because the Party Five Year Plan is likely the same either way if they're just gonna do a tagout instead of a primary.
@AnarchoNinaWrites Exactly where I'm at. Credit where it's due and I appreciate some scrap. Diversity of tactics can include politicians if they're cool about it.
I see too many of you lapsing back into last week's attitudes. You *cannot* do that. Do not let the short news cycle get you killed. The rules have changed.
Stop using the analytical models, threat models, and strategies you've used your whole life for eking out slim electoral victories. Start using ones for resisting fascism.
If voting is part of that for you, then do it. But don't make the mistake of thinking that's a solution to what's coming for you. Fash aren't playing by those rules.
