Consider this your regular reminder that landscaping fabric is bullshit. It doesn't work and is basically just soil pollution.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 12-Dec-2024 08:09:54 JST CedarTea Most of us have never experienced a healthy ecosystem in our lives. Neither have our parents, or our grandparents. We long for what nature used to be like, but it's just a less degraded version, not what it can really be. When I read historical accounts from hundreds of years ago, the landscape is unrecognizable, and not just the parts covered in strip malls.
But we don't have to settle for any of that.

Assad was backed by Russia and Iran, so his fall weakens their positions. Israel now has a more open corridor from the Golan. Pretending HTS are the good kinds of fundamentalists allows them to turn a blind eye to whatever fuckery they get up to, since the west is only concerned with the macropolitics and their own self interest. At least that's what I've gleaned.SDF/AANES/etc have stood up various defense organizations which are hopefully effective.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Sunday, 08-Dec-2024 10:39:01 JST CedarTea You'll always find, in the final analysis, that all crime and all law exists simply because those in power decided it would be better that way. When you reify law, when you acknowledge these definitions of crime, you are siding with these centers of power.
This is not to say that everything illegal is good or vice versa - the world is obviously not so simple as that. Only that you should retain your own agency and moral compass autonomous from the state. And yous are doing great today 😘

Media, politicians, and police: "This sort of criminal behaviour is a signifier of the deep rot at the heart of the civility of our politics and it must be cracked down on with law and order."
Normal folks: "Oh, so it's a crime to kill him but not for him to kill my aunt? Eat my entire ass."

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 06-Dec-2024 08:06:52 JST CedarTea "We need a new FDR. He was such a great man who helped us out so much!"
You piss on your ancestors' legacy with statements like this. You're selling your great grandparents and yourselves short. Recognize what they fought for and how, and pick up the torch. You can do it just like they did. Better even. But you've gotta believe you can win instead of waiting around to be saved... by a politician of all people.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 06-Dec-2024 08:06:37 JST CedarTea Your enemy doesn't sue for peace when they're winning. When they hold all the strategic objectives. That's when they push for unconditional surrender, not offer favourable peace concessions.
You can't just skip ahead to the peace deal because you think it would be better. Your enemy doesn't care what's better for you, and no amount of clever arguments and well-assembled slide decks is going to change that. Nor is politely asking for a different negotiator.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 06-Dec-2024 08:06:14 JST CedarTea The history of the American (and many other countries') left is much more easily understood if you view FDR not as your representative, but as the peace negotiator for your enemy. The giveaway is right in the name, "New Deal". You don't make a deal with yourself.
This mischaracterization leads to a huge strategic misstep, where leftists think they can simply vote themselves another deal. A deal with who? And with what leverage?

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 14-Nov-2024 01:14:04 JST CedarTea I am once again asking people not to use "convicted felon" as a dunk. There are a lot of felons who are behind bars right now, specifically because they they took risks that you wouldn't when fighting against fascism, and the state convicted and punished them for it. They deserve better.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 14-Nov-2024 01:14:03 JST CedarTea There are felons convicted because they're poor, because they're black, because they're indigenous, or just because they're inconvenient. Do not give over your moral compass to this immoral system. It will swallow it whole.

CedarTea (cedartea@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 07-Nov-2024 08:29:53 JST CedarTea When the fascists screamed bloody murder over migrants, the liberal response was not to fight them on it, but to show their own "toughness" on the border. And so, when people hear about the border, they think it *must* be a problem because both parties say so. And so they think "who is stronger on the border?"
They will never think the dems are stronger on the border, no matter how many fascist border policies they adopt. Never.
