help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Monday, 04-Nov-2024 04:36:57 JST help_helper This morning I was thinking about this homemade potato soup my great grandma used to make for me with potatoes and carrots from her garden. I realized I have both of those things from my own garden so went to the store to get celery, chicken broth and some cheese to make that soup for dinner. If it turns out good (it will) I’ll poast recipe later. -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 29-Aug-2024 22:19:27 JST help_helper @EssentialUtinsil @CatLord @lichelordgodfrey @LukeAlmighty same, I purposefully plant peonies for them near the areas of the house they might otherwise try to enter, like
the kitchen. they also really love sunflowers so I try to make sure to grow a patch for them. before I was into gardening I would get ants in the house every spring and summer and drove me nuts. as soon as I started growing things they like, I never saw them indoors again. -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 29-Aug-2024 22:18:23 JST help_helper @CatLord @lichelordgodfrey @EssentialUtinsil @LukeAlmighty this is why I never try to get rid of ant hills near my gardens. every year
my tomato patch gets descended upon by these little pinkish aphids and I start to worry. after a couple weeks I mysteriously would no longer see them, hmm. sometime ago I finally spotted the ants going after the aphids. I knew it was smart to leave them be, I could feel it. ants are friends. -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 02-Aug-2024 09:46:45 JST help_helper @tyler @AmonMaritza @SK1ZM As a fellow hemorrhoid haver, I cannot recommend a bidet enough. Get you just a basic $35 toilet attachmeant - I even saw one at the ole Weimart the other day - it will vastly improve your life. I also use alcohol-free witch hazel (the regular kind with alcohol works too - also findable at the Weimart - just stings for a sec if you’re inflamed) put some of that on one of those really sturdy paper towels and then you can dab that on the roid(s) to get the pain and itch under control.
Having a hurty itchy b-hole is one of the most intensely dehumanizing experiences the average person has semi-regularly that doesnt get talked honestly enough about 😢 -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 28-Jun-2024 22:45:48 JST help_helper @immobile I never knew that!! I’ve heard of cornflower and have seen it famously printed on vintage Corningware dishes at thrift stores but I never put it together that it’s the same flower (and I’m also just now realizing the name play there - Corningware, cornflower. those clever bastards). Rye beauty is a great name, I might start using that. Today I Learned. -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 28-Jun-2024 22:40:51 JST help_helper The bachelor buttons are starting to bloom and the little bees are pleased. these came from seeds I saved off ones that volunteered last year from the 2022 flowers that I grew from seed 🥹 they’re so easy to grow, they’re really happy to be here. They smell nice too. #bloomscrolling -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 15-Mar-2024 16:37:56 JST help_helper We get these dudes around here, called grapevine beetles. They’re big dorks and they’re very friendly. I like to let them land on me and they just vibe on my head/shoulder while I work. -

help_helper (help_helper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 01-Mar-2024 05:27:53 JST help_helper @EssentialUtinsil @collatz @BowsacNoodle I've been experimenting with the "Ruth Stout method" of piling 4-6" of straw/grass clippings/yard waste/veg scraps over the entire bed and its really helped keep unwanted plants from sprouting at all or if they do, they're much easier to yank out. Also keeps my muck boots a lot cleaner on wetter days.
