@ArmchairEconomist01 @Tony I think this would be true of certain regions, but I’m skeptical regarding most of it. China has a cultural coherence and collectivity we aren’t accustomed to. Of course I suppose this is contingent upon the extent of the nuking you are proposing.

@reallyangry @lord_nougat @Humpleupagus @Turkleton @brimshae @Kirino Sounds a lot like the kind of environment I‘m working on providing for my kids to grow up with. The parcel you’ve got is a bit more substantial in terms of area - but we’ve got mountains, lakes, rivers, forest, and that sort right up next to our backyard, which they have practically untrammeled access to. We’ve got a lot more neighbors than that, some of whom we actually know kind of - and truth be told I feel it’s become more crowded than I like but it’s manageable. We’re not quite as wealthy as I was growing up, which stings a little. But almost everybody feels the same way so everybody gets it.

DEQ was only a thing for a short stint in my adulthood - til I moved as far away from Babylon as I could afford. Takes a while to get groceries, but I figure I’ll get at least a little advance warning if it ever comes crashing down.

Used to go places that had ethernet jacks until I figured out about wi-fi. That was that; wrote lots of emails, ICQ, Skype … Eventually by abt 2012 or so my in-laws bought me a smartphone. Missed out on owning a flip-phone entirely.

For a long time I went to places on a mountain bike, but I came to think of bicycling like a galley slave regards his oar. In protest I just started walking everywhere. One does not easily get so far, but the space in-between becomes enormous.
