@jobanab@BowsacNoodle yeah we got the japanese beetles something fierce this year. I finally had those bag-traps w/ baits that smell kind of like cinnamon - seem to be working fairly well. I don't have chickens but I've heard that since it just tricks the beetles rather than poisons them, you can even go reuse them as a treat.
@BowsacNoodle Thanks! Ah, interesting - Well, I haven't trimmed w/ that in mind, although I've removed any shoots that weren't producing a bunch. My plan was to let it grow along two something-like-6ft-spans this year; pick the strongest-looking shoots; trim to only those and let them grow woody; then finally keep it that size and focus on whatever produces the strongest bunches. Sounds like that may work?, although I'll have to get specific on what you're talking about once I've established the basic form.
Wasn't really monitoring, removing weak grapes, and checking for pests so we've got some really spotty bunches, but with insect netting on now, hopefully there'll be something in the fall.
Only pest I've found was a single eight-spotted forester moth caterpillar, and I'm reading that they don't tend to do much damage. I am unfortunately seeing a bunch of the otherwise-strong/growing grapes get the necrotic spots you can see in the final image, and I've got no idea what that is yet. Fingers crossed I guess.
Sure, the JIT (just in time) brainworm has fucked a lot of things, but the US not doing anything would show some significant non-niggerish hands on the tiller. I'd guess that means understanding you dont do the following until your logistics are in order. youtu.be/Wax15NklZh4
@BowsacNoodle@EssentialUtinsil I certainly like to keep a given patch growing. I suppose I think of a weed as anything that's not working along or at least unobtrusively w/ whatever I'm primarily growing. Do wish I knew more about companion species for pest control, etc., but that's another one of those somewhere-down-the-list things to learn/practice.
@EssentialUtinsil@BowsacNoodle If I could only grow two things, winter squash & sweet potatoes. Best staple-nutrition/storage, plus disease resistance (at least in this area) ime. I like the sound of people who talk about taking down your "weed seed bank" year over year on a given spot, but I don't think I'm that deft yet lol
@BowsacNoodle Thanks man, I'm alright on my end. Yeah I can still get into streams & things that don't take the kind of consistency growing does, but I ended up losing so much produce as I lost the time to process. Don't want to over-promise, but I'll (probably much less frequently) still do a few smaller things, and turn some of the normal growing spaces into wildflower/cover-crops for this year. Silver lining of building some good nutrition I suppose.

collatzNot likely to be doing much growing this season. In short I have a family medical situation, and there are really no other relatives to step in for now. I'll be around, but I can't put in the consistent time I usually do to pull off a good grow. Who knows, maybe I'll end up w/ some help and can still do a few things - if so, the sheer volume of pre-nuclear seed potatoes could make for an insane grow.
Just like the regular potatoes, still have to sort & clean, but it looks like laying the slip on their side rather than planting vertically helped them form more regularly.
@graf@p Just from the perspective that most of what they currently promote is things like 'mental outlaw', are they really 'alt right' as-is? Always looked at them as just 'permissive b/c we're not large enough to afford the effort or loss of involvement for jannies'.
Not looking like a grow-again. Extremely dense in seeds. Not an awful flesh, but w/ the seed-density and lack of productivity, it just doesn't take a rank up w/ the Mickylee and Ocelot. _Maybe_ if you're very space-limited it makes sense, but I'd generally recommend against.
