@BowsacNoodle Since I've taken these images, the others have started flowering as well. Grown it once before, years & years ago, and I recall it being difficult to set/get-viable seed, but fingers crossed here.

Stevias! Two different cultivars here, one that seems to be putting out blooms, and two starts of another that I cropped & tried to clone a few weeks ago (no success).

Tried to grow the kind of poppyseed you put on breads. Turns out I have a lot to learn about these 'pepperbox' poppy plants. Idk maybe they're burnt by the ferts at the bottom of this pot; Maybe they'll at least put enough of a bloom out to give me fresh seed for next year. Whatever, you try you learn.

Eggplants (casper) are also one of the things I didn't really get into a good position for the year, but I've still got at least this little one producing a fruit. Will just let it grow out and refresh the seed b/c what I started w/ was so old I was amazed it gave me any plants and iirc that took like 3wks.

@BowsacNoodle 🤔 hadn't tried that. I've mostly only made a tea w/ it. Turns a really bright red when it encounters the acid in lemon juice.

@BowsacNoodle The closest thing I can compare it to is cinnamon, but that's not quite it. And I should say more smell than flavor.

Nice to have some plants I like going that just self-seeded. The Akashisos start flowering/seeding very late but they're finally putting out blooms.

I've always pushed back against broad-based boomer hate.

I'd roughly guessed that it comes from all the horrible policy/political/demographic/economic changes that happened in their heyday/earlier-working-years, made to look worse by the fact that ignorance of those things was so much easier before the internet. We can't stop those decisions now, so why should I be mad at even-less-informed boomers for the same inability?

Basically, nope. We could get into questioning these data, but taking them as pretty much accurate, boomers really did become revealed-preference Ayn Rand disciples.

Well, I'll still always talk to anyone who wants to take any part of their head out of their ass, but this is kind of like seeing nog crime stats for the first time, damn. therightstuff.biz/2023/09/30/by-the-numbers-episode-twelve/

Follow-up to yesterday's watermelon post. Also pulled two Sugarbaby minis (pic1 the darker ones), and two Mickylee minis (pic2 & pic3 the lighter ones). Final pic w/ all of them together for size comparison, and believe me even the sugarbabies are fairly small (maybe half-size of your avg. watermelon?) to give you some idea of how diminutive those ocelots are.

Main watermelon harvest. I was doubtful about these seedless Ocelot mini-watermelons but they really shined here at the end. Six of the little buggers (pic1), and I tried one (pic2) - the first from a couple weeks ago was really sweet, but a little dry/not-crisp; This one was great! Also seems to have had as single actually-developed seed in it! Idk anything about these seedless/triploid watermelons, but I've saved it of course, and will look into whether or not it's worth regrowing.

Thought I had Korean Rugosa mint going in these pots, but seems it was restarts of my anise Hyssop. All good, these things do a nice low-maintenance 3-5 year rootstock, and it's about time to set some new ones.

Since I've been here, my following tendency has largely been to follow back as long as it seems someone isn't pretty much only reposting. That, or if you do anything regularly w/ growing vegetables obviously.

Noticing that some people seem to follow, wait for the follow-back, then un-follow? Idk, maybe this is just how the system appears, and it has something to do w/ being on private or some other setting? Anyhow, I'm going to unfollow people who seem to have done that b/c I'm not really interested in approaching all this from a 'just gather a follower count' perspective, and I don't think I'm probably very interested in content from people who do. If I unfollow you and I'm just misunderstanding a private/settings thing, let me know; I'd prefer see what the majority of people who're just being people have to say.

Tried that first Ocelot. Lived up to being seedless, and plenty sweet. Not quite as crisp/juicy as our first Mickylee, but still good. Might grow again if I have better luck starting seedlings.

Sunday's harvest. Finally got that first Mickylee, and for a mini-watermelon it's pretty big. A few smaller Krims, a single mid-size Brandywine, and some fairly big Mortgage Lifters, as well as the continuing stream of Sugar Rush cherries.

Got a couple of Thai basil volunteers. Oddly, while they're in the same bed they were in last year, they're on the complete opposite side from where they were grown in an area that was part of the expansion from this spring. Nice to have regardless.
