"Organized Crime and International Operations Albania is globally recognized for its transnational organized crime networks, which are resilient and highly diversified. Key criminal markets include the cocaine trade (rated highest in severity), heroin trafficking, human smuggling, and cyber-dependent crimes. Albanian syndicates exert significant control over illicit markets in Europe and South America, utilizing diaspora networks to traffic narcotics, engage in arms smuggling, and commit financial fraud. Despite these international activities, domestic corruption remains a pervasive enabler, with Albania scoring 42/100 on the 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index."
