This is pretty great too, except most of the clothes that have been made in the past few years that weren’t luxury brands won’t last long enough to make it to secondhand stores, but I still love to see this.

“The global secondhand clothing market is outpacing the overall retail sector and is predicted to increase at a 12 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to $350 billion by 2028.
The used apparel market in the U.S. outpaced the overall retail clothing market by seven times last year. By 2028, it is projected to reach $73 billion.
Within five years, the report expects to see online resale clothing more than double to $40 billion at a CAGR of 17 percent.”

Used Clothing Market In US Grew 7x Faster Than General Clothing Retail - PopularResistance.Org
Sales of secondhand clothing are on their way to making up 10 percent of the fashion market worldwide, as environmental concerns and high prices inspire consumers to shop for pre-loved items, according to a 2024 Resale Report by online thrift and consignment shop ThredUp. The 12th annual study, conducted by analytics firm GlobalData, includes projections through 2033. Its findings are based on a survey of 3,654 consumers in the United States, as well as a survey of 50 of the country’s top fashion brands and retailers, a press release from ThredUp said.

@DaywalkingRedhead @beadsland I hope you don’t see this as changing the topic, but I’ve seen a lot of terrifying discussions centered around pregnant women, people on social media wanting to put them in jail to protect the fetus from potential drug use for example.

I think it’s psyops trying to get people comfortable with the idea of work camps. Lock the brain damaged up, lock the pregnant people up, lock the drug addicts up, lock the homeless people up . . . It seems like every day I go on social media more and more people are getting behind this idea and screaming for it on the Internet and it’s terrifying to me.

And what you are doing here is helping to counteract that. Please don’t ever stop.

@kikobar @aral I stopped going to the Rite Aid down the road from me because the only way to get the advertised sales price is to use the stupid rewards card. And years ago they stopped letting people use the one at the register if we “forgot” our card.

I’m not paying more than other people when there’s a sale just because I refuse to give them my information so they can sell it. So I just don’t go there.

Hannaford was doing that for a while so I stopped shopping there. I had to go there recently for something specific and I don’t think they do that anymore.

@econads @ophiocephalic @GreenRoc @MediaActivist this is the one aspect that keeps me from calling myself an anarchist, I don’t think I can classify myself as that because I do believe we need someone to deal with the idiots. Maybe before Covid I could have believed in some utopia where people care about other people and the cooperate, but we all know better.

This doesn’t talk about New Hampshire because we already had our primary, but I can tell you that they normally only count write in votes if that candidate has filed some paperwork to get counted, and I only know this because it was a big deal in 2016 when Bernie didn’t even take that extra step.

But apparently they count them in the primary because they were able to tell us that four or 5% of the votes went to “cease-fire”.

@Testoceratops if they don’t have a medical alert bracelet, and you don’t know why they are having a seizure, please don’t wait five minutes to call for help.

My brother was a type one diabetic who would have seizures if his blood sugar got too low, at that point it’s way less than 50 and the only way to save him is to get glucose in him. The seizure will stop but then he will go into a coma if he doesn’t get glucose.

@gwynnion recently in my personal life I’ve found myself having to back away from a friend because she hangs out with dangerous people. Her new boyfriend is an absolute psychopath and her best friend has developed this alcoholism related delusional disorder, and being around her feels really unsafe now.

And I just passed by a post that said that Taylor is now in danger because of peoples reactions to her interviewing this bigot, and it has made me decide that yes, yes I do need to distance myself from my friend who has dangerous friends. Because this is what happens when people are not discerning about who they let in their lives.

And my silly friend thinks that by letting anyone and everyone into her life and her home she’s doing a good thing by not being judgmental, it’s OK if she thinks I am judgmental, but I need her to understand that it’s not judgmental to look at someone and decide that their values, their morals, and the way that they live their life are not compatible with her life and maybe they shouldn’t be invited into her home.

You guys, this is terrifying. I’m freaked out that nobody seems to be talking about this except for people who are actually homeless.
“In April, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a major case that could reshape how cities manage homelessness. The legal issue is whether they can fine or arrest people for sleeping outside if there's no shelter available. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has deemed this cruel and unusual punishment, and this case is a pivotal challenge to that ruling.”
    https://www.nhpr.org/national/2024-02-20/how-far-can-cities-go-to-clear-homeless-camps-the-u-s-supreme-court-will-decide

I hope y’all realize that this could happen to anyone. I never thought I would end up homeless I started working at 14 & I worked multiple jobs at a time most years, I had careers, I went to college and got a degree, I had savings. Then I became disabled in an accident I didn’t cause. It kicked in MECFS too. I didn’t have three years worth of savings, which is how long it took for the SSA to approve disability for me. Three years. So of course I ended up homeless.
But even once I started getting disability payments, and even with a large lump sum from all the backpay they owed me, it was still a struggle to get housing because my disability check wasn’t 3 1/2 times any rent anywhere. I also had a part-time job so my averaging income was four dollars more than the minimum wage here but it still wasn’t enough to qualify to even apply for an $825 one bedroom apartment.
The only reason I’m not homeless anymore is because I finally got to the top of the section 8 waitlist, it took five years. I moved up quicker because I was homeless and because I had a job in the city I was applying in, but it still took five years.

How far can cities go to clear homeless camps? The U.S. Supreme Court will decide
      from https://www.nhpr.org/people/jennifer-ludden
Lower courts have said it's unconstitutional to punish people for sleeping outside if no shelter is available. Cities say these rulings have paralyzed their efforts to manage growing tent encampments.

This really pisses me off we have people sleeping in camps next to the river, but we’re going to spend $850,000 tormenting people in Texas? Awesome.

Republican lawmakers granted Gov. Chris Sununu’s request Friday for $850,000 to send up to 15 National Guard members to the southern border. In a 6-4 vote by the Joint Legislative Fiscal Committee, Democrats were alone in opposing it.

@Damon @MediaActivist my favorite thing about Reddit was that I knew if I was in the New Hampshire sub talking about New Hampshire, the people there want to talk about NH. If you are on a Covid aware sub nobody’s going to get mad at you for talking about Covid issues. It’s nice to have little conversational spots. But it’s also super sketchy over there.

I’m still subscribed to a few people on substack because they write really well and my life is better because of the information I obtain reading their stuff.

It sucks that substack is cool with Nazis, but I don’t see Nazi stuff there. I don’t go on that platform I just read the pieces that come to my email box. So I don’t think I’m encouraging Nazis by continuing to receive good information from good people. And the people I like are slowly leaving that place and I follow them where they go, but some of them just recently moved there from Medium after Medium decided to train AI with their work, so I understand why they aren’t immediately moving again. Especially when it seems like scattering the people who gather for good information is the oligarchs goal. I think that’s why they let the Nazis on there, so good people can’t reach people who need the information. Same reason melon bought Twitter.

@Mary625 @LALegault I was so disgusted watching his people drag young voters out of the room because they were chanting “cease-fire”. It was so trumpian.

The only real difference is that other folks there to see Biden didn’t start beating up on the people being removed. That was happening at SNHU Stadium in New Hampshire. I forget why the people were being removed, but the red hats were trying to hit them and shove them as security was taking them away.

I would call it animalistic, but animals are better than that.
