I guess while we're on the subject of "people I imploded my life to warn you about" - In These Times published this expose that touches on a whole carnival of "left" influencers who turned out to be someplace on the spectrum from reactionary muppet to outright fascist:

Some of these people (Aimee Terese for example) were more obvious than others, but back in 2017-2019 when I was escaping this community, these are the people I was taking shot to warn folks about.

(Some of you are saying "yeah duh" but I assure you, that even by the time I'd had enough of giving dipshits like Beanwald, Dore, Taibbi and the MANY folks you only know about because they were promoted by those guys, saying this shit was enough to wreck my life for a year and a half or so. Part of that is my fault, choose your friends better - part of that is that a lot of American leftists who got their wings in 2016, aren't very politically sophisticated and don't do self-decolonization work)

To me, the critical factor is almost certainly money. Folks who got into this, to get paid, and are merely fronting a political position, quickly learn that the money isn't in teaching good left wing theory and praxis; it's in telling disaffected reactionary Americans that they're already perfect leftists and its the people who want them to surrender their reaction that are wrong/the CIA/fake left. Part of why I really stopped soliciting for money in 2019. Won't ever be me.

And as I also noted before; it's not like other ppl didn't warn me. They did, all the way back in 2016, friends of mine (typically marginalized folks) were DMing me to say shit like "I think that guy's bad news" about folks I was hanging out with & referencing in my writing. At the time I did what everyone does, "assumed I knew better" and made allowances for "dumb Americans." I was of course, wrong. But I made amends eventually; and long before this was obvious to everyone. Hence the bad noise.

Like I said at the time, and every waking moment till what I thought was the complete mask off moment for this whole eco-system of influencers (when they all took the cops' side and turned on the 2020 George Floyd protests) - "hating liberals is not in and of itself, a fully-fleshed out lefty political ethos." The only thing ITT doesn't cover, that I would have, is pointing out how this circle is self-referential, and promotes each other to a large audience in a way that doesn't FEEL accidental.

To be clear, I never said it was Horseshoe Theory. And the ITT article says on at least two occasions "it's not horseshoe theory" directly. I'm arguing that these folks were NEVER left, just piggybacking on the left wing wave produced by the first Sanders primary campaign in 2016, to make money. They didn't change their opinions, because they weren't doing any of this out of belief. Indeed, if you told me that whole crew was an op, I couldn't DISPROVE it. But I think "greed" & "shit ppl."

@maggiejk I understand if you don't have the spoons to read the whole 62 post thread about Angie Nagle; especially since she wasn't that hard to spot - anyone who writes a book called "Kill All Normies" even ironically, isn't exactly a chameleon. But the In These Times article is very good, and marks out at least a dozen influencers who match that description - it's worth reading.

@carcosa @maggiejk Given the sheer volume of the source material, I literally cannot transcribe it all, but the tl;dr here is that Angie Nagle masked off repeatedly from 2017 until now, appears to be dating "Joseph Jordan aka Eric Striker" (noted strasserist fash muppet), was promoting fascist ideas well before she wrote "the left case against open borders" in that conservative rag and was helped with interviews by the usual suspects, Red Scare, Katie Halper, Aimee Terese/Dead Pundits etc

@synth yeah, I cringed at the whole thing being on Shitter - but also since I'm not prepared to listen to and analyze 100+ hours of Angie Nagle pushing crypto-fascism on folks who should know better MYSELF, it's going to have to do. The ITT article underneath is also worth reading and doesn't require you to hit Twitter. Hopefully, "Angie Nagle is a fascist" is uncontroversial enough that folks who can't read Twitter threads, won't need to. But these were not MY choices. I'd have done it here.
